If characters are platonic friends in canon, they’re sex partners in fanon. If a character admires another in canon, they’re stalking them in fanon. If a character enjoys something in canon, they’re completely obsessed with it in fanon. That’s just how things work.

Rarity and Big Macintosh are friends who sing acapella together, and have no romantic tension at all. Rarity and Fancypants are just friends too.
 
Pinkie Pie and Cranky Doodle Donkey are friends - friends with a generational gap, no less.
 
And of course, Fluttershy and Discord are friends too.
 
It’s less common than female friendships, but to say this show is completely devoid of male-female platonic friendship is highly inaccurate.

Because that’s a criticism I have of the show overall. Mares and Stallions operate in completely separate circles, and thus there hasn’t been a lot of cooperation.
