Personally, from what I’ve heard about the three most recent arcs (not counting the one going on right now with Trixie, that includes 13-14 with Pirates, 15-16 with the Bookworm, and 17-20, Reflections), I think the only one I plan to outright skip when catching up (there are quite a few issues I still haven’t read for myself, though I’ve been hit with spoilers for every single one of them, and that includes any Micro Series or Friends Forever issues) will be the Bookworm one. I heard that one REALLY wasn’t very good.

lame the Reflections arc.Nearly everyone I see who hated the arc now despise Cook/Price because of how much they thought it sucked(I found it to be mediocre,but I saw it as nothing more as a fluke). People bitching about that damn arc is more annoying to me then the arc itself.

Plus, Sombra was the most dangerous villain. He very nearly won simply by preparing for just about every possibility 1000 years in advance. The only thing he didn’t anticipate were baby dragons and wife-tossing, which led to his downfall.

Thing is, before the movie even came out, people were crying, “HOW DARE YOU GIVE TWILIGHT A LOVE INTEREST!” Yes, he did turn out to be a little bit on the bland side, but people were raging about him before we even knew that was the case, simply because they were putting him in a “relationship” (which it didn’t even qualify as) with Twilight.

Can people please stop calling him a Gary Stu? Seriously, actually look up the definition of a Mary Sue. An absolutely perfect character, with no flaw, is better than all the others, and is almost always the one to best the villain. Flash was shown as an average high schooler who fell under Shimmer’s spell just like everyone else.
 
The term Mary Sue/Gary Stu has become utterly worthless at this point. All it means now is, character I don’t like.

Of course, Sunset was given a comic focused solely on her and her backstory….Why the movie didn’t include it is beyond me. (Seriously, it was too short.)

Like Sunset Shimmer, he’s a ball of wasted potential. Less so than Shimmer was- the corrupted former protege of Celestia that came before Twilight Sparkle was a narrative goldmine. However she turned out to be a cookie cutter mean-girl that had her very shaky at best plan backfire.
 
But we’re talking about Flash here- who seems to have no common ground with Twilight.

I don’t know, I kinda liked how Sombra was more creepy, and subtle then other villains. Plus, I think they intentionally didn’t expand on him as he gets killed-off for real.
 
As for Flash, actually I do see some fans come up with some things for Cheerilee, and other secondary characters, (maybe not as much as say Derpy & such) so they’re not quite as off-limits as you say.
 
Also, some fans want Flash to never appear again, so not all of them want him to have more screen-time. Heck, some get angry just over his brief cameos in the show.

He’s not ours to personalise. He is a more major character. Like how Cheerilee has gotten next to no fandom development, she’s off limits to us as a secondary character.  
Fans WANT Flash to show up in the show more and have some screentime. They want to see his character develop. Same went for Sombra, who wasn’t hated for his OC design, but for his lack of personality. That’s what truly kills a character.

But still if fans want him to have more character/personality, why don’t they just make up one for him like they do Lyra, Derpy, BonBon, DJ, ect.?  
Besides, even if they did flesh him out more, that require giving him more screen-time, and possibly take said screen-time from the “Mane 6,” so even if they did that, fans would just complain he’s a “spotlight-stealing Gary-Stu” anyways. So it’s lose-lose no matter how he’s handled.
 
Plus there is an EqG TV series coming out soon, so it’s possible he’ll get some fleshing out in it, and have his flaws shown, for all we know.

Since the beginning of season 3, I’ve lost all interest in Twilight Sparkle. So, he can have her- in either pony or human form.  
Flash himself is a barely-there character- and voiced by based Tong. The staff don’t even seem to like him all that much- blame is being cast upon Hasbro for the non-speaking cameo in the Cadiscord extravaganza and his one liner in the finale.

No one said he was perfect. Besides it’s clear that the love interest is to show the fact twilight is not above being in a relationship even though she is a princess. Also keep in mind this show was made for a younger audience, so they don’t need to make a character, that isn’t used much, to have a super amount depth and personality. I neither hate nor love flash because of a lack of use. If they made him a main character and kept him the way he is then I would agree with you, but since that is not the case I have to reserve my judgment.

When you don’t give a character a personality it becomes about the Fandom. When you do give them an official personality it is about their official personality.
 
For Lyra she is what we say she is. For Flash, he is a cardboard cutout of what a shitty focus group thought girls wanted. Is any character portrayed as perfect loved in this show, hell as soon as they showed Celestia take a beating from Chrys her popularity went up.
 
Perfect isn’t what people want in their characters, certainly not their characters love interest. Pony Flash is unfortunately tainted with the memory of his human Gary Stu counterpart.

Couldn’t the same be said for almost every beloved background pony, and alot of the bit/side characters that everyone loves?
 
For instance, all Lyra does in the show is sip drinks, and sit on benches, and everyone loves her. She’s done less in the entire series, then Flash did in the movie. (And at least he did come in handy with clearing Twilight, when Shimmer tried to frame her with bad photoshopping skills.)
 
Not bashing Lyra mind you, whom I like, and I’m not a huge Flash fan either, but if people hate him for having no personality, they’d have to hate alot of other characters technically.

I remember a request for Soarin’ awhile back. Did he ever draw that?

If they made the movie longer, like the length of a regular movie (given it was going to be in theaters even for a short while) they could have fleshed him out more, but the short time frame hurt the movie in a lot of areas.
 
I don’t hate Flash, personally. I’m just indifferent to his canon portrayal. I’ve seen plenty of fan works that portray him well and give him depth.

That would be a good start. Something beyond we created you to be stereotypically attractive and dance with Twilight would be nice.
 
People think the fandom doesn’t like him because he was with Twilight, fandom doesn’t like him because wasting Twilight on a cardboard cutout is just such a waste.
