Eh, I like to mix it up.
Sombra was her real father, but due to some magic mumbo jumbo, she ended up frozen in some sort of magic tomb.
Cue Daring Do coming in and saving her and adopting Cadance. (Not to mention having Blueblood as her little brother. He looks up to her and she doesn’t really know his bad behavior, not believing it herself.)
I never considered that book’s story as canon.

Let’s pump up the ante: Zero the track from the last mission from Ace Combat Zero. With Sombra clad in heavy platemail that covers his entire body, complete with a face concealing greathelm and wielding a massive twin-bladed battleaxe.
Going by Cadance’s backstory, she was found near an earth pony town as a child/foal. It could be reasonable, given magic, that she was somehow transported into the future…Hey, if someone can go back in time, you can go forward. (And it wouldn’t cause a time loop, or anything like that.)
