I think her scene with the Crusaders at the start of the movie says a lot about her and how she’s changed: it shows her wanting to help others even when they want nothing to do with her, which demonstrates her better nature finally shining through, but also how far she has left to go. (I also kinda like the contrast between her cornering Fluttershy up against a locker near the start of the first movie and wiping Fluttershy’s face off near the start of the second, but that’s not directly relevant.)
Definitely. It proves she had a good character, just as Celestia had supposed all those years ago. She chose a life path that led to the suppression and darkening of her better qualities, but when she came face-to-face with that fact, she was willing to take responsibility for it and get her life turned around.
I think one of the biggest points in Sunset’s favor is that she was willing to face the music, so to speak, and deal with the terrible things she’d done (and she never denies that what she did was terrible) rather than try to ignore them or run from them. And it’s also significant that she keeps trying to rise above her past, turn her life around, and be a better person, even when she’s surrounded by people who’ve written her off as irredeemable.
I guess that kinda goes with the “we are running out of time so let’s wrap this up!”
Pretty much the exact same thing. That’s why I never had an issue with the whole “Reforming Rainbow Beam” thingy, because for me it wasn’t brainwashing as more as “purificating” them by destroying the monsters born from their darkness but that aren’t themselfes (and that’s why I DO have an issue with how they instantly turned Evilestia and Eviluna back into good in Reflections, since their malicious actions came from their own instead of their darkest feelings taking over their bodies).
I guess when I think back to the season 1 opener, isn’t that kinda the same effect that Luna had as Nightmare Moon after being smacked by the elements of harmony?
Same here, the fact she looks in pain when transforming, and the fact that Nightmare Inferno (nice name btw) acts WAY more evil and destructive than Sunset might imply that it was her desires incarnate and NOT herself. So yeah, the Elements made her realize what she became, and latter helped her get free of them.
She was never “possessed”, period. Her improper use of power transformed her into Nightmare Moon, no external forces required.
Well, I was talking about S04E01. She wasn’t possessed when she raised the moon.
You must be talking about the comics, because it doesn’t sound the least bit familiar. Ergo, it doesn’t count.
Well, she choosed to use black magic (eclipse magic? I’m not sure what it was), no wonder that said black magic betrayed her and used her body and mind.
I meant that enthusiasm sincerely – it looks like it came out sarcastic, though. Sunset Shimmer as not-evil, but still Sunset Shimmer, would be a tricky and very interesting character to write…
Eh, can’t be more boring than Twilight was this season. (Apart from Testing Testing, 1,2,3, she’s been blander than white toast).
Ah. Misinterpreted your initial post then. I completely agree with this sentiment.
Not really. Don’t get me wrong, I like both Luna and Sunset, but I’ll always be quick to affirm that they are guilty of terrible things which they can blame on no one but themselves. There were reasons they acted as they did, but no adequate excuses, or justifications.
Depends on how you write her.
So that’s why “Blame My Sister” is a shirt…
She didn’t have the right. Neither did Sunset. Doesn’t mean either one is irredeemable.
Amusingly, both their downfalls can be traced to Celestia not f-ing listening. Which Celestia herself alludes to (but does not seem to grok) in Sunset’s origin comic.
Dude, Luna was no victim. She had no right to act the way she did.
It was entirely her aspiration to BE a celestial alicorn. She doesn’t have to be a total Luna clone you know, she has her own story. I don’t even know what you’re trying to get at.
