Um… most of pop culture today isn’t worth fawning over. Most of it is either tasteless drivel or unoriginal content that perpetuates the lifestyle of ignorance and contractible diseases. It’s rather bland to watch and to listen to.
TV shows are heavily based on violence and sex and intense, deep plots are rare. Not to mention everything has become rather unpredictable. And if it isn’t already heavily commercialized by numerous advertisers that do nothing but pad in time and suck the enjoyment of the show out of it
Hell, at least cartoons meant for children are trying to see what they can fly past the radar. That’s what makes it so fun, it’s a matter of ‘what can we put in this cartoon that the adults can widen their eyes in shock over’.
Shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, LoK, Last Airbender, Steven Universe, Gumball, and MLP all try to go beyond the call of being a child’s cartoon and become more of an artistic expression. The expressions, the animated personalities, the relateable and not-so-relateable characters are all done with effort and surprising detail, as if they care about their drawn characters; a sentiment that all artists share.
Not only that, but we as a fandom can become close with the actors, writers, and artists of those shows because there isn’t nearly as much legal garbage to sort through. And pop culture in general has way too much money in their hands distracting them from many of the individuals who do support them. It’s not even the singers, but rather their agents. The Artist Formerly Known as Prince is the only person I could see you get your point across because he is an individual who could beat the corporate greed of the Hollywood machine.
Most of the modern media is a sell-out for fear-mongering, race-baiting, celebrity stalking, sports praising, bias-spinning, Obama-bashing, advertising, greedy corporate slimes that seek to take from you and give only to themselves. They give to charity, but not to their own communities. The ‘charities’ they give to hoard some of the money for themselves.
The vernacular for pop-culture is ‘money talks, your intellectual contributions walks’.
TL;DR: Until the mainstream is more focused on the meaning of the song rather than feel-good party, sex, drugs, shake dat ass bs, then the pop culture will not receive the love we give to a cartoon filled with technicolored miniature equines.
