When Twilight was talking about “making things right,” part of me wanted a “for a want of a nail” fanfic plot with all sort of time-travel alternate-universe fun.
 
It would be hard to differentiate it from every other alt-EoH AU, though.

lol, time travel was the first thing that came to my mind when Twilight wanted to undo the damage. I kind of wish she would have mentioned it in the show and then been shot down by Spike for exactly this reason.

Crowd scenes aren’t reliable guides, however, especially during the earily seasons when the animators tended to clone ponies. I’ve always assumed they were changlings scouting out Equestria for the upcoming invasion.

I was waiting for that last part XD

It would’ve been easier to clone herseld and send the clone back in time to go to the party.
 
Of course, that results in two Twilight Sparkles running around, but eh, I’m sure that would work out…

In the show they were not parts of the plot, and are thus trivial. That is not true in the comics, where they are a focus.

I expected time travel as well, I also thought about how Nightmare Moon would have never been defeated had Twilight gone to that party.

I mean, the show did this too. This doesn’t seem to be a comics/show thing as much as it’s a “My Little Pony’s continuity is tenuous at best” thing. Is this really a controversy?

You’re probably ignoring it on purpose, but I’ll say it anyway; in the show, when Twilight was a tiny filly, Lyra, Minuette, Twinkleshine, Moondancer and Lemon Hearts were also fillies, her classmates, and her friends.
 
In the comic, when Twilight was a tiny filly, those five were full grown adults, were not her classmates, and showed no sign of personally knowing Twilight at the time, IIRC.
 
That is an incredible difference and irreconcilable without resorting to explanations far out of the realm of reason (like the five unicorns simultaneously taking memory and aging potions that have never been implied to exist before during the events of the comic). It’s pretty damned obvious from the episode that Twilight and the others are supposed to be very similar in age.

You forgot how in the show their all the same age as Twilight, but are already adults while Twi is a filly in the comics.
