The probblem with the first one is simple: the mane six wouldn’t be the stars of the story. Do we want a two-parter about Glimmer saving things after she intentionally messed them up? Same problem with the last one.
@Zebasiz
She can’t possibly know every way in which she’ll affect things, though.
There are a couple of ways I can see it happening:
my problem with the idea that starlight will succeed is… where do we go from there?
If the mane six never gotten their marks and led different lives, who could save things?
If that does happen and Nightmare Moon comes back because of it….
I don’t think there’s a meme image out there that would describe the amount of awesome that would be so I’m not even going to look for one. :P
All I can say is that she tries to pretend to be reformed and later betray Twilight when she sees a grasp of power. However, that doesn’t make any sense with the map showing their destinies.
@Bronitarian
Hey, isn’t there a spell like that already? A spell that shuffles around cutie marks and destinies? A spell that was fairly instrumental in Twilight’s rise to princessdom?
Thanks, M.A. Larson!
Your second plan wouldn’t work. Seeing the Rainboom would never make Starlight become a Princess.
Twilight was taken as a pupil by Celestia because the Rainboom caused a hyper poweful magic burst since she was the Element Of Magic. Starlight is no such thing.
Plus, someone who tried to take everyone’s cutie marks would’ve shown their true colors sooner or later.
Sort of like a Body Switch, only instead its a Fate Switch where the two people change destinies or whatever.
Some of the people here mentioned time travel, and that could be bad as well. What if she alters her own past so twilight never saw the Rainboom, but instead Young Starlight did? And took Twilight’s place in time to become Princess of Friendship. And then, enacted her plan to remove all the cutie marks in the world given her position of power.
That part bothered me too. Hopefully this time it’ll be different.
would also say the spell might just negate itself in a sense. the thing that caused twilight to want to time travel was created by the spell she used to time travel.
my theory is that she access the magic of the castle to alter the cutie marks of the mane six, maybe even make them forget who they erwe before, to remove them as a threat and then use the magic of the castle for her own ends.
she does it by stealing twilight’s mark.
that or she somehow alters reality or something. shrugs. hoping the prior over the latter cause while not implausible, seems iffy.
the tree itself likely sent the girls after starlight, but the castle seems to only be a tool.
Worst Possible Scerancio on what could happen:
She goes back to way before the show started and makes Spike be adopted by somepony else rather than Twilight so thus the two never met. This would mean that Twilight depsite not having an assistant and still moving to ponyville will likely never meet her friends and she dies during the Nightmare Moon arc.
Yeah, my idea’ dark. So what?
I expect some shenanigans.
I am deeply concerned.
Or maybe they weren’t sure if there would be a Season 6. So better resolve it quickly than create a plot hook that will never be resolved because the next season is going to get cancelnd.
That spell, huh. Maybe. But it’s in the Canterlot archives where Starlight can’t get it. Even Twilight had to go there.
Plus, the spell she used would have to take her back years.
The one used in It’s About Time?
Reasonable foreshadowing. The kids won’t forget her, and we certainly won’t.
If it’s any consolation, I too would prefer her to return next season, but that depends on the finale.
What spell?
