Plus…. Good armors are the ones that provide maximum protection to vitals organs Arteries/Lungs/Neck/Head while also maintaining minimum impact to user mobility. As for ponies the hindquarters plays major factor in their mobility on the ground. So it is wise to keep it clear and open for flexibility as much as possible. Beside Alicorn’s restoration magic are one of the best their is. So provide that she still have her head attached to her neck, healing a leg amputations is just a breeze.
 
Technically speaking that’s why IRL there are also no bulletproof armor pieces for your legs and your precious crotch…. unless its an EOD suit

Dare deny me that ponies in G4 MLP verse aren’t use their tail as “Body Extension”. As AJ can use it to control the lasso like and an arm does Boast Buster…. Zeccora used them to planting seeds in Cutie Poks…Spike can stood on Twilight tail in multiple occasions and many more. So I ask you why not use it to hold a Shield too? it clearly makes sense to me cause in combat everything that usable IS useful.
 
As a Sci-fi artist I knew to hearts that this design make no sense IRL physic and appreciation…. But mind you this design is not for our real life logics.

Yeah, this armor makes no sense.

What’s up with everyone making combat T-Shirts? I mean god, the dude that designed it considered protecting the tail more important that, you know, her hindquarters?  
And what about the “Heavy weapon holster”? Does she save a combat dildo and whacks everything with it in the head, rainbows forming in the drops of her moistness as she kills her foes?

This is pretty damn cool.
