She’s goddamn Nightmare Moon! And evil that has the ability to shapeshift. Shape shifters can change their physical appearance, thus meaning that she can change her wings! So for all we know, this could be Nightmare Moon trying on a different style today, and who the hell cares! If you had a shapeshifting friend who decided to go for some different ears, would you care? Of course not! Nightmare Moon can shapeshift, so it’s perfectly possible that she could have bat wings! Maybe she did decide to look like this in the actual Canon my little pony universe. But in the end:

A change of color is pretty much the same as a change of wings: they’re both a change to her physical appearance.
Saying that one doesn’t matter while the other makes no difference is just stupid, and you know it.
