It was, but it also was better than MMC in nearly every possible way.
 
  • The songs were better. (except the chase sequence, that was awkward)  
  • The background music was better (well, I don’t know if better since I can’t remember MMC, but it was great on this episode)  
  • The build up was miles better.  
  • The pay off was better.  
  • It dealt with an arc of multiple characters instead of centering itself around just one.
     
    I’m not sure if I could keep going with the list since I’m on a half asleep state right now but that’s plenty enough reasons to me.

I still feel dumb for not guessing that something was up from the sheer number of songs. There’s only one episode it has that in common with. (Though wait, Pinkie Pride has quite a few too and no lasting changes occurred there except getting one key closer to opening the Mystery Box of Plot Importance… I need to go back and count.)
