Lasers are tricky to make, especially on your own. I’ve seen one guy on YouTube make a railgun, but he probably spent a lot of money on big ass capacitors and even then it had maybe half the power of a .22LR.
 
If I had Thing I wouldn’t hurt her but not assimilating others would be paramount. If she tried to kill someone innocent and didn’t back down I’d incinerate her without hesitation.

Reminds me of how people who love building stuff in their house, screwing around with batteries and trying to make their own laser weapons. Last time I saw one it was only capable of popping a balloon, but whatever.  
Too bad I don’t have my own personal power generator in my house, I’d love to try setting things on fire with my own electrics or laser weapon…

Hmm… I’m an electrician and I can say that in short you won’t get the mobility or practicality using electricity as you would fire, you could still make deadly booby traps out of common house wiring that still has power. And an industrial setting where you have 3-phase power, 208V and 480V, and endless ratnests of wiring… things could get interesting. Kaboom, arc flash

Electricity and fire are just different forms of energy. It probably has some decent effect, though fire is easier to use and obtain, so why taze when you can blaze?
