Platinum Supporter - Platinum Supporter

The difference I think is that Pinkie Pie was passionate about the thing she wasn’t good at right away, where Celestia was just trying to help out.

The first message is “You should tell your freinds the truth if they’re really doing a terrible job abd it might adversly effect others.”

The SECOND message is not to not tell them, the second message is “Even if your friend is bad, you should support them if they’re passionate about the interest.” These lessons are not mutually exclusive but one in the same. The second episode is much more “We’re gonna be honest, you’re really terrible, but we will support you anyway.”

Twilight doesn’t confess to being wrong but telling her she was bad she says she was wrong for telling an not to play because she was bad.
Rarity also says if it makes her happy it doesn’t matter how good she is.
At no point in that scene do they take back what they said about her being bad at it

But the reason Pinkie got depressed wasn’t because her friends told her that she’s too loud and not good at playing the yovidaphone, it was because she was told it’s a waste of time to play the yovidaphone because she wasn’t getting better at it. The point of the episode was that you shouldn’t stop doing something you love even if you’re bad at it. Pinkie’s friends told her that she shouldn’t “waste time” on her instrument because she wasn’t getting better at playing.
Westing1992

My big issue with the episode that they didn’t even have to tell her her playing was bad. They could have just pointed out that there were times when her playing was too loud or distracting. It would be that way whether or not she was good or not.

Solar Supporter - Fought against the New Lunar Republic rebellion on the side of the Solar Deity (April Fools 2023).

You know, I’ve seen many times that Pinkie Pie gets depressed … both in the series and in the comics, has gone through many things, like when Twilight Sparkle shouted at her in the movie, but that did not make her gray … However, in season 1, she became Pinkamena when she thought that the manes “5” did not want to be her friends … and here it was to tell her that she no longer played that musical instrument … and if it is not depression or sadness , it is for a lot of fun or for getting angry or for another emotion.

Pinkie Pie always takes her emotions to another level … to a very extreme one

Pinkie didn’t turn into Pinkamena just because her friends doesn’t like how she sounds playing the yovidaphone, but because her friends told her to never play it again because she sounds bad, she turned into Pinkamena because she thought she wouldn’t ever get to play the yovidaphone again.

Twilight Sparkle: That’s what Yukina told Peter…

Sunset Shimmer: I figured Yukina now lives through me…but that’s not the point. The point is balance. That’s what Yukina meant. Some things aren’t black or white. You need to find the in-between. Tell Pinkie the truth, but tell it in a way that doesn’t hurt her feelings. Help her improve with her musical instrument. Balance. That’s the key.

I do like how they called the previous episode out, but the moral/difference wasn’t obvious at all. The ending kinda seemed sloppy and fell apart quickly

Go ahead. Make my day.
The lesson that I learned from watching this episode is that when your friend starts playing a new instrument bring plenty of ear plugs.

Reasonable enough, constructive or at least some criticism is necessary to get better, because if you just go full Gordon Ramsay on someone’s work, they’re more likely to throw the whole effort away into the trash without even recognizing what you’re trying to point out!

Not the moral at all. The moral was respect the things your friends are passionate about even if they aren’t good at them

I think the message they’re trying to say is, if you wanna tell them how bad they are at something, at least give them constructive criticism and advice on how to improve their skills
