Probably because they’re also very close personality-wise, and Twilight has a rough history with each of them before they became her friend. Any one of them could make for a sweet story.
She’s also paired up with Discord the most out of any character, given how her order and chaos counteract each other well.
It could also be that like minded ponies tend to gravitate towards each other. They are a herd based species after all.

In my honest opinion, Starlight Sparkle sounds much better.
“Starlight Sparkle” would work so much better.
The only thing I hate about it is the name. Twistarlight is a weird ship name.
