Star Swirl the bearded was a legendary Black Mage whose studies would become the foundation of all Black Magicks as the modern era knows. Magicks and spells were often used by residents far before Star Swirl came to prominence, but his studies brought forth the idea of what type of mana is channeled when calling forth what would later be called Black Magick.

Star Swirl isn’t a legendary Black Mage by virtue of being given the title first. His claim to fame was just how far he would take the knowledge he came across. Many new spells came into being under his studies. In his time, Flare was merely fanciful spell joked about by the students that studied magicks, but he became the first to successfully use the spell. The surviving books depicting his life all note his dissatisfaction with the result as it was less potent than the theoretical limit Bahamut could achieve. As the stories go, this is when the legendary dragon’s version of the spell began being reclassified with prefixes with the newly cast Flare as the baseline. The outcome of Star Swirl’s unsatisfactory result was a powerful spell of his own making, one that has yet to grace the world. Its known in the modern era as Comet.

The unicorn theorized that there could be 3 and possibly 4 levels of intensity of most elemental magicks. He even predicted Comet to perfected, and the only reason he himself didn’t pursue the theories was because the now Black Mage found himself the teacher of the Celestial Siblings, the future Princesses Celestia and Luna. The Unicorn would spend a few decades teaching them practical and theoretical magicks from scratch as the two of them had oceans worth of mana to draw from. With some refining, he deduced, they could unleash magicks the likes of which theoreticians couldn’t even begin to dream about. However, he would never be able to see the full potential of his charges as he was whisked away on a journey that would end in his untimely disappearance.

Only to reappear a millennia later along with who have become known as the Warriors of Dawn. The title was given in that the six of them as they are often cited as the progenitors of their combat and magickal crafts. Most other jobs, as they are now known, have at least some relation to one of these six. These “Old Masters” tales all end after a disappearance, when in truth, they used their powers combined to seal away a great darkness. They were revived by the Warriors of Light and Darkness under the misconception that they were captured by this great evil. Before the hero worshipping Blue Mage could even introduce themselves and this new world to the misplaced Dawns, a battle of life and death ensued.

Star Cloak - A well known cloak that was written to have almost always been worn by the Black Mage. However, after being unsealed, Star Swirl’s didn’t fare well from the battle to seal the darkness. It was left to a certain Red Mage to fix. The end product was pretty close to it original state down to even the magick enhancing enchantments.

Star Rod - The tried and true rod that Star Swirl has used for a large portion of his life. He maintains it first thing in the morning, and it is attuned to his magickal signature to maximum efficiency. With what he would later learn of magicks as it stands in the modern era, he modified it to further enhances the mana he could output to the point where he can cast the new to him Meteor with as much effort as it took to previously cast Comet. It amusing glows in the dark and while channeling along with the shapes on the cape.
