It would be hilarious if something like this is what actually happened with Cadance:
 
Person 1: “What’s the name of that pink ruler in that crystal castle or whatever?”  
Person 2: “According to some quick research, her name is Crystal.”
 
The creators were probably some of those people who thought ponies are young horses (I know a few people who say that), so they probably searched up something like “crystal castle filly” and in comes these results.

I’m not sure what my favorite part of this merchandising trainwreck is– fedorajack, or The Taxidermied Corpse Of Mr. Spike The Dragon.
I don’t know… good as those are, there’s pretty fierce competition from “all the drugs” Rarity (which, come to think of it, might explain what happened to the late and badly taxidermied Spike), and “I warned you about the dangers of inbreeding” Apple Bloom.

I’m not even sure these actually are bootlegs; it’s entirely possible they just suck real bad and Hasbro doesn’t police its licenses very well at this merch tier. The Phidal “My Busy Books” figures– at least the first set of them from several years ago– are even suckier than these, and those were definitely officially licensed merchandise.

Well it is a bootleg. They got several of the names wrong. Plus, Spike is wearing a bowtie. He never did that in the show.
