Even if DHX/Hasbro thought they could get away with using a character from the fandom, the fact that the artist has explained that Fluffy is inspired by a giant moth that appeared in an Uncle $crooge comic would scare them away.
They probably missed it, and it was 2 months between that one and the one before it.
