Spoilers
This might become a thing:
  1. Static:
    full
This is basically how they are now

  2. Click:
    full
(yeah, shitty gif, I know). Basically, you click the thumbnail (galleries only) once to unspoiler the pic, then click again to go to the actual pic. If you move the mouse out (or on mobiles, click something else I guess), it becomes spoilered again, and you have to click-to-unspoiler again.

  3. Hover:
Much like Click, but unspoilers when you move the mouse into it, spoilers when the mouse leaves it again. Useless on mobiles. You’ll have to learn to mouse around things by the warnings given in the black bar alone. Do not use this if you often rely on the mouseover tags (use click or normal instead).

  4. Text:
    full
(ignore that fluttermac is tagged trixie) “Hmm, I found this artist that has 70% questionable, but I don’t see any grimdark warnings. I’d like to see the thumbs and decide if I watch it or not” This does exactly that, but still keeps the black bar.

  5. Off:
    full
Effectively disables all spoilered tags in your filter, without having to maintain two filters.

The idea (well, my idea) is to have it a dropdown a la the Filter menu: when you change it it redirects to the page you were on etc. so that you can switch real quickly. I know that at least TSP wants to make click the default.

    Disabling voting on SPOILERED thumbs
Brings back memories to a while back, no? Anyway, a keen eye will have spotted two particular things in the above images:
  6. Spoilered images did not have the yellow background
  7. In all modes (except “off” of course), the fave, up- and downvote buttons were slightly grayed out. An ever keener eye would have also seen how it still indicates if you have something that is spoilered faved/up/downvoted, too.

Because there was such a drama over the downvote button last time, we can do a few things. NOTE: you will always be able to vote from the image page itself! If you have already voted, you can always undo your vote from the thumb as well!
  8. Disable both faving and voting on spoilered thumbs (excluding “Off”)
  9. Disable faving and voting in only some modes (discuss!)
  10. Disable only downvoting on spoilered thumbs. We know who you are. For the ones who don’t know, there’s a bunch of users out there that instead of hiding things like they’re supposed to, they spoiler them so that they can downvote every single spoilered pic they ever see. I do not care about these users. FYI the reverting of the removed downvote button a while back was because of the few legit reports about untagged shitmemes, not because of the [whining intensifies] shitposting loudly mass-downvoters

Personally my preference towards the fave/vote business is as follows:
  1. Disable faving/voting from “static” spoilers
  2. Disable downvoting from everything with a black bar (ie, everywhere but “Off”)
My reason for this is that I’ve been using hover-spoiler through scripting for a while now, so when I unspoiler something that I like, I can fave it. However, being a ‘normal’ user also means that if I don’t like it, I just move on; it’s not like the spoiler warned me that I might not like it after all (or looking at score first, etc).

    So discuss!

I needed to test something with tags that had spoilerpics and some that didn’t. I don’t actually spoiler trixie on the actual booru, I just needed something really quick (but hey I though of trixie first!). Also can we get back on topic or ban since I suspect this is getting derailed soon anyway

DERP accidentally deleted your post instead of replying, sorry
I think the click behavior might be the most sensible. Changing the image on hover creates excessive annoying flashing and visual clutter.
As long as spoilering something does not load the thumbnail, I’m fine with practically anything. Except with not being able to upvote spoilered images :-(

The idea is that you can choose what you want to use. For example, I would prefer to use hover (I move the mouse there because I might be interested; clicking is just extra effort). Others want click (makes sense) or maybe just how they’re right now. There’s absolutely nothing that would stop us from “why not all five?”

About the upvotes: you mean upvote based on tags? Or a click-to-unspoil, then decide to upvote based on the thumbnail? The argument to disable all voting on spoilered things it that some users will shout “you’re turning the site into a hugbox!” and we’d have to either disable all sorts of voting, or keep both. The fact is that maybe 1% of my all-time votes are downvotes, and at least half of them were on untagged stuff (ie, not spoilered/hidden!) that I don’t want to see on my alt account.
I’m all for keeping faving/upvoting on at least click-spoilers, hover-spoilers and text; I think pretty much nobody would fave something they haven’t seen (ie, static spoilers).

Excellent!

you mean upvote based on tags

Yes, sometimes I upvote solely based on the tags. My alternate filter (that I use if I have to go mobile) spoils “animated” and “absurd res” and I very often upvote images tagged “absurd res, vector” without even seeing the image. I spoil absurd res only so that I don’t accidentally download a 10-megabyte images in background tabs. Same goes for animated; after a new episode, a 48-image front page can weight over 20 megabytes… and I often upvote them all, so if I can’t upvote anymore without opening the image, it’d be a major annoyance.

Yeah. I wouldn’t mind cutting that one out, but since it’s technically possible and doesn’t cause any serverload (it’s all done clientside nowadays), there was no reason not to mention it at least.

I’ve used it sometimes when browsing artists and wanted to see all the thumbnails at once, but also still some sort of spoiler warning.

(I’m more of a power user, who is like “more options = more better”. For normal users it’s usually the opposite, so if any of them goes, it’s probably this one)

I would support disabling downvoting on a spoilered image on all modes. Spoilering already means they dislike a type of content, not because of the quality, so the “hugbox” argument shouldn’t hold. Downvoting on something you already spoiler is just petty.

As for spoilers, my option of choice would probably be hover.

I’d say 1,2 and 3 all seem nice. 4 seem a bit redundant, but I can’t say for sure. Option 5 I don’t really understand. Will I be able to turn on/off spoilers like I had an identical filter, but with my spoilered images as vissble? If so i support that one too.

As for the faving/voting of images you have spoilered I think:

#1 Static:
No faving or voting from thumbnail.

#2 Click:
If it’s possible (and not too much extra work) I think the image should remain unspoilered and vote-/fave-able as long as long as you remain on the image or its informationbar. That way people could relatively easy vote/fave without having to actually open a new tab as long as they have “seen” the picture.

If above not possible/viable I say no restrictions.

#3 Hover: Same as #2.
#4 Text: No restrictions.
#5 OFF: No restrictions if it works as i think.

Finally, thank you legit reporters! Now I can downvote the few (I think) pictures I disslike and can’t filter without having to watch them full screen first.

A good default would be click to unspoiler.

  1. Disable faving/voting from “static” spoilers
  2. Disable downvoting from everything with a black bar (ie, everywhere but “Off”)
I agree pretty much with this.

Do there exist any scripts we can use to play around with this sort of functionality before it becomes a thing, if it becomes a thing? I’d personally love this becoming a thing because it seems to make spoilers a better feature overall.

Been a while since I replied in here, but I might work on this over the coming weekend.

Heard a couple of good points I didn’t think of myself, for example @JP’s point for being able to fave/upvote static spoilered things. I’m not especially against this, especially since being able to fave from hover-spoilers is VERY MUCH in my own interests, and they’re not that much different. Plus I doubt the mass-downvoters are going to upvote spoilered stuff all of a sudden now.

So here’s my plan:
-> Modes Static, Click, Hover and Off will be done. Text seemed to be creating confusion, and downvoting on that is NOT going to happen, so I think it’s better to just not make it an option at all.
-> Default mode will be click-to-unspoiler. Not sure how I’m gonna make the switcher yet, but I want it to be next to the filter menu.
-> Faving/upvoting from thumbnail possible in any mode. Downvoting only for not-spoilered pics (thus all pics when in Off mode).
-> Nobody has made any comment so far about also removing the yellow background thing. See this very NSFW example (no actual thumbs shown) The left two are spoilered but have the same blue background as regular thumbnails, while the right one has a yellow background (as it is now)

@Adlaz
Yep. “Off” will be like you’re using the same filter, but without any spoilers. You’ll still be hiding whatever you have hidden.

@Background Pony
The script to test this before it goes live for the masses is called “apply for developer”. In all seriousness, I’d link a my greasemonkey script here that would hack some buttons or something and lets you test drive the modes, but it’s been broken since the recent spoiler upgrade, and it’s more work to make that one work again than just make it happen on the server, really. All of the javascript to do the different types of spoilering has actually been live for a while, it’s just hardcoded to use Static mode for now.

I don’t think people noticed the background yellow thing.
I’m in favor of click to unspoiler and to disable the ability to downvote spoilered images in the thumbnails.

Can we also make it so outright hidden things can’t be downvoted at all though? People going around downvoting then hiding things [I’m a bit guilty of that myself >_>;] would negate the downvote after it’s hidden.

So that’ll mean I’ll have to go through the entire safe tag and find out which ones that I’ve seen that I liked enough to favorite? Even go so far as to find new things I like?
… How is that a bad thing exactly?

Okay, that might be a slight overreaction, but I think it’s a really great change. It combines “I don’t want to see everything under that tag”-ness (which I have with explicit stuff) with the convenience of seeing what the picture looks like, before you click on it, and makes it a perfect whole.
