1. In place of a comment, show a message that says “This message has been hidden because you blocked (username)”. People tend to be curious by nature, so when they see that message, they either click “peek” (if there is one), or go incogneto to view what it said anyway. Either way defeats the purpose. Plus in addition, people love calling out “ha ha I can’t see what (username) said” when they recognize that a post was blocked, which just fuels invisible drama.
    
2. Completely hiding the comment, not giving any indication it is there. This ends up equating to shadowbanning, which I personally find to be highly unethical.
    
   Additionally, further issues are that it tends to derail conversations because people using such a feature become privy to only part of it, and then this causes conversations to split and spamming to occur. On top of that, it’s additional load on the server because then it’d have to start evaluating each comment to decide if it should show for that particular user or not, which makes caching more difficult.
    
   If you reported a user for imporper behavior and feel that a mod did not handle the issue to your satisfaction, you’re always welcome to request an appeal or evaluation of the decision. You can either re-report the original comment/post/user and note in the description that you would like to have an administrator review the previous decision, or you can email ops@derpibooru.org
