@The Smiling Pony
“ people that find as much enjoyment from these things as they do from “real art”.”
True, and that is nice and all, however, i think you should consider a distinction between memes and obligatory ponies and how is the site being used in this regard.
I know you said you don’t want to jam too many things, but this is too relevant since obligatory ponies and memes almost go hand in hand.
“Having standards for “artist content” is an incredibly tricky thing. One guy’s lazy exploitable meme is another’s hilarious joke that made his day a whole lot better.”
Again, that is nice, but is also important to consider the nature of the meme.
See, is not just about standards.
Most memes are obligatory ponies, which means that that hilarious joke is just an excuse to post non-MLP stuff on the site.
Why would people want to post non-MLP stuff on this site?
There could be a number of reasons, one of the main ones seems to be the community.
Want to share this non-MLP thing with the community? just add some ponies.
A great example of this is the tv meme.
So, is this how you want the site to be used?
See, other boorus also have memes, but they don’t seem to have this problem where memes about unrelated crap take entire pages and used as an alternate forum.
Again, memes aren’t necessarily the issue, it’s more about obligatory ponies. Yes, memes are popular and people like them for whatever reason, which is totally fine, but this becomes a problem when ponies stop being the focus of the meme and become more about cramming random unrelated crap, and it only gets worse because there is too many of them.
You could argue that other boorus don’t have this problem because their communities aren’t as big as ours
In that case, i think is important to clarify, what comes first in this site, the images or the community?
