Man, I remember Paintbrush on windows 3.1. We used BMP and we liked it!

This is intolerable, no true art site should allow lossy formats like JPEG or GIF, even PNG and TIFF has a subtle degradation of the Artwork, most people with basic equipment won’t notice, but true graphic designers know how to make the difference, hence the necessity to only allow RAW files for photography, and BMP, PSD or SGI formats for 2-D art should be allowed. I also think the creator should provide a calibration file to help us understand the true message and philosophy from their art, the same way FLAC or MP3, or CD audio’s wav will never equal the sound of a vinyl record playing on Cabasse speakers and a McIntosh amplifier.
 
My eyes hurts, every time I notice artifacts and gradients on what should be a beautiful flank that should inspire perfection, these lossy formats ruins the true experience of getting close to our waifus. As a photographer myself, the only source of noise that should remain is the Cosmic microwave background, we should be able to feel it as a part of the subject, which makes Art a part of something much bigger.

Disregarding that this is a troll post, most consumer monitors/GPU drivers cannot even display all the possible colors in a PNG image accurately and web browsers generally don’t operate outside sRGB at all.

Actually, JPEG with 95-97% quality is the most optimal choice for almost every non-animated and non-transparent art. You, probably, won’t see any difference

If anything it’s the low res that hurts
 
Seriously… I’d much rather have a high res high quality jpeged image than a low res PNG for the same file size
 
I personally like 99 quality jpegs… I think they give a good compromise… Yes, standard jpegs give a shitty quality/size ratio… But until they use more efficient things like h.265 still image compression that can get almost double the quality for the same file size… I guess we are stuck with shitty jpegs

or even less, actually. there are laptops today that are sold without even a proper 24-bit screen. 16 or 18bpp. it’s crazy.

yep, actually beyond 95% (or a setting of 11, standard on photoshop) will not give anything visible, even on a 1024 screen. usually i save my photos around 10.

there’s a factor of resolution, but mostly on PNGs it’s not really an issue. however i’d have an objection about the idea of rendering SVGs into large PNGs to eventually save disk space or something, just keep PNG for the preview, since now most browsers supports SVG.

Yeah, I don’t understand why most people upload a PNG instead or a SVG when uploading exclusively to Derpibooru… It makes no sense in most cases…
 
I figured out that Derpibooru exports it at 72 DPI so by resizing it in Inkscape you can have it create a high res (like 4000 x 4000) PNG by uploading the SVG

Some vectors can be massive, though.. sometimes a decent res PNG can be much smaller

Anyway, I’m just saying if you need to cut file size down don’t do a low res PNG… instead do a higher res high quality JPG

Hi! Last night I had a link going to another user’s account on here. When you click the link it was broken and I’m not sure if I did something wrong or if it is a bug.

Is downvoting an image supposed to automatically add it to some kind of stealth hidden images filter that doesn’t actually appear on any of the filter pages or in the /search?q=my%3Ahidden&hidden=1 search, or is something broken? ’Cuz downvoting an image now replaces it with a [HIDDEN] (Complex filter) Celestia spoiler on the thumbnail pages and a standard Celestia spoiler on the image page with a “This image was hidden by a complex tag expression in your current filter” notice.

Hmm… well I don’t have anything added in my complex hidden/spoiler filter.. so that could be why it’s not happening for me

The filtering thing is being looked into.

Ah, figured out the issue (still shouldn’t be happening, though)
 
You probably have “my:hidden” added in your complex filters… I just added that to test and now it does that whenever I downvote an image
 
 
But, looks like it’ll hopefully be fixed soon
 
My guess is this is what caused it “Implemented spoiler filters for my: conditions.” in the changelog
