The new button feels a bit too big, being of similar dimension as the tag element it’s under. Can it be done in the same style as “Toggle detailed information”?

I do want to improve it (mainly the height), but I don’t think the styling on the detailed info toggle is correct. There unfortunately isn’t really an in-between.

I know we’re probably done talking about the meta bar by now, but it’s been driving me batty the past couple of days.
 
I use the DS button more often than any other, yet I now never know where it’s going to be on my screen when I view an image page. It might be all the way over to the right side, or, if there have been a number of votes, favorites, comments, etc., it’ll be about a third of the way over from the left side.
 
Granted, I’m on a small screen at the moment – it’s an older Lifebook laptop, and it’s all I have while I’m traveling – but the buttons shouldn’t be ‘jumping’ unexpectedly from side to side like that. It makes living with a trackpad on this site pretty annoying.

Well, we did have the metabar spaced out so that things don’t jump around, but the vast majority of users don’t like it that way. I don’t think there’s a way to please everyone on this, unfortunately, but I will look into alternatives at some point.

I’ll look into modifying one of the scripts shared earlier, which IIRC rearranges a few things, and might do the job. Ugh…now I’m kicking myself for not keeping my Web-coding skills sharp and up-to-date.

The text would make you think to click it rather than the link, which looks like a link to another page. UI shouldn’t lie.

Good point, I couldn’t readily think of a way to untoggle the tags.

Still looks like a link and has no way to say its current state, which makes it look like it’d change something somewhere as opposed to right there.  
This is why I don’t think the toggle detailed info styling is correct. It may look a little cleaner, but it gives the wrong impressions at a glance (to the point that a very cursory glance will lead to thinking it links somewhere else).

Just that and it’ll be across the entire window, which leads to jumping about as the window changes width. Needs a max-width for consistency beyond a certain width (90em or so was what we had).

It doesn’t need that consistency: if user is changing window width, they’ll already have their muscle memory messed up by moving the window around; or being on a different system.
 
Additionally, barring window being too narrow to have the buttons fit on specific bar, having justify-content without max-width is going to be more consistent as the download buttons will stay same short distance from the right side; as opposed to same left and changing right with max-width.
 
 
EDIT: I don’t like how the implication button looks since it doesn’t mesh with the rest of the UI, but I like the idea.

Well I think that buttons submit forms.

Doing some work on the description area to make it more consistent with Source etc.. Here’s what I’ve got right now:

I’m going to try to make Source follow the same standards as well so that the UI in that area will be more uniform. Eventually, the “edit tags and source” button may go entirely as editing the two will be separate, which would then allow us to make source submit on enter again easily.

Another change coming soon is on the box I’m typing in right now. I noticed it has some unusual extra bits in the preview (a second inner outline and a ton of padding). Here’s some before and afters using a pre-image version of this very post:

If you mean userscripts, the only thing that will really change is a level of nesting and two (not very specific) classes being dropped. If the userscript breaks, it was almost certainly setup wrong.

And talking about the main code, the message page is kinda…. infinite?

That’s not anything intentional. Please post in the bug reports thread if the problem exists without userscripts, and make sure to mention your browser version.

Not sure what the point of this would be, they need some closeness to indicate the checkbox affects things on posting, and are already a little separated.

Also, there’s a plan I have for the tags and source areas that will make the editing separate and pull the buttons for them out of the tabs. Used a recent safe image as an example.

Why though? I really don’t see why this needs to be changed at all. It just seems to be another UI change for the sake of it.
