4chan bills itself as having few limits on what topics are acceptable, and that’s what it does well.

True enough. I personally had some gringe moments but thought it was funny as well. actually little clever use of wordplay.

If I’m remembering the philosophy behind humor right: humor often derives itself from going outside of the comfort zone for our amusement, or to circle in orbit around the known, comfortable, and mundane to point out and show off the irregularities and quirks within the normal, or to draw satire from something to poke fun at it. Or if anything, to draw humor from something to get someone to think.
 
Could you call Molestia without taste? Yes. But should the concept be censored for comfort? No.
 
If you want to get deep with Molestia one could say that it fulfills its roll on humor on a couple levels. One being a word-play pun on Celestia to satirize her. The other could be satirizing sex and/or rape to draw something taboo in a manner approachable. Hell, I would go so far as to say it’s not necessarily making fun of rape victums, but putting rape in a discussable light; maybe a little more approachable so it can be a part of the conscious.

There is also the connection between molestia and tyrant Celestia. The idea that princess Celestia is abusing her power. I think that it comes from our society’s peed seated fear of absolute unquestioned monarchs.
 
The resistance to rape jokes seems to come from the wish to raise and maintain a social taboo around the subject of rape and sexual harassment. The idea is that without the taboo people won’t take the subject seriously and be willing to dismiss the occurrence of rape an harassment in real life.  
While i agree that a taboo status is a strong tool to motivate action against this subject, I think that taboos stifle the ability to have an open and honest discussion on the matter. And such discussion is imperative to our ability to devise ways to fight these crimes that will actually work and won’t be just a mere expression of panic.

Rape’s taboo wont disappear with some jokes.  
Someone posted something on crack.com about how a joke has to be extra funny depending on the subject matter.  
I think that’s fine since it reflects the innate taboo people have on the subject rather than an external restriction

There’s a lot of stuff going in jokes in their composition, context, and what not to figure out if they’re the perfect joke for the topic-matter. And the fun thing is: not even philosophers have figured that out. Comedy is that one big murky thing we know about, but can’t really define. I think it was Plato was wrote it best that comedy was the defiance of definition.

This little part right here. This is very true, and unfortunately also something that people tend to forget.  
Spewing hate and forcibly censoring what you don’t like helps nobody. Giving and receiving critique and feedback and taking it into consideration is a lot more constructive.

Some from the movemnet have started screaming that they should push forward without the higher members, but as DG has put it, he’s burned out. I don’t blame him either, trying to turn a horribly planned concept into something feasible would drain anyone, not to mention corralling the cats that do nothing but spew hatred towards the opposition.

I personally think that JJ is going to be a little more careful about what he draws to avoid sparking the movement back up. I’ll be surprised if we see another comic which can be legally defined as rape.
 
I also think DWM was doomed from the start by the fact that it was/is a bunch of different groups of people with conflicting tones and strategies. Half the supporters are “fighting the rape apologist scum” while the other half takes a more calm and friendly approach.

I see that Pinkiepony is now on the DNP List. (Which i admire.) Does this mean we are finally finished with the DWM?
