Headcanons that annoy you

I don’t like all this popular fanons like Gamer Luna, Trollestia, Lyra wants to be a human, and Vinyl and Octavia are PFFs, since they have no real grounding in the actual show.  
I am also annoyed by Celestia x Discord, Luna x Sombra and Chrysalis x Sombra.

People who take canon/fanon too seriously (not really a headcanon that annoys me, but something at just seriously gets on my nerves).

Honestly, I don’t really care. Make Celestia a hardcore murderer or Chrysalis as lovable and innocent as a newborn kitten. Make Luna and extreme body builder or one of the biggest nerds in Equestria. I haven’t found something in fanon capable of bugging me.

Equestria being a matriarchy, and to a lesser extent Equestria having a gender imbalance. People seem to assume this because we don’t see enough male characters in the show, but the reason for that should be obvious(show made for little girls, more females, etc).
 
I cannot stress enough how much that bothers me.

It’s not so much it annoys me as I think it’s overused, but I would like to think Gilda is not representational of Griffon culture, she’s just an exception.
 
I’m kinda iffy with the idea that griffon society is a bunch of uber pissed off war happy Klingon wannabes, if anything I’d like to imagine Chef Gustave la Grande is more representational of their culture.

In my headcanon, and something I’ve applied in RP’s to justify antagonistic griffons I may be playing as: they’re are two types. Migratory types rooted in traditional hunter-gathering ways who operate as basically the-strongest-survive perspective, and then the civilized types with their own home-land across the ocean who drove out the migratory griffons.

Technically, a gender imbalance would be accurate to horse populations. Not everyone is interested in the xenofiction angle, but sticking with the on-screen gender ratio is hardly an odd choice.
 
That said, the gender ratio isn’t as extreme as some think. The number that I’ve heard is about one-third male, which is probably closer to human numbers than it should be.
 
Equestria being a matriarchy is pretty much canon, though it isn’t like males are being enslaved or exiled. Male rulers on screen or implied are a definite minority. We’ve heard of two male rulers, although it’s possible that Rainbow Dash was crosscast as Commander Hurricane, as the military seems to be a male run institution.
 
A male military force subservient to a female government is actually a workable extrapolation of herd stallion and bachelor herd behaviors, although I doubt that it was on purpose.

Why would Gilda be a representation of Gryphon culture, anyway? From what we know, she spent her childhood in the same place as Dash, so she’s more likely to be a denizen of Cloudsdale rather than some theoretical Griffon nation.

I have a feeling that applying a system of society based on real life horses to Equestria would not logically work out. Either way, why do we assume that the intelligent, human-like ponies are anything like real horses?
 
Also, a matriarchy on a social level is what really gets my blood boiling, certainly it can bother me on a government level to, but that’s much less of an issue to me. It’s basically gender equality that I am concerned about.
 
The bottom line though is that I am so incredibly opposed to something like that, and I am a little disgusted that there are people in support of it.

Enh. Depends on how far you go. Calling the male military a holdover from bachelor herds works as a nod to them not being human without giving them a completely alien though process. Young males staying separate also isn’t too strange. Any bits of horse psychology should be tempered with human level intelligence, of course, so they wouldn’t be any more overpowering than they are for humans.
 
To be honest, their magic powers already give their society lots of differences from human civilizations. Compared to manually controlled weather, something like a skewed gender ratio is hardly worth mentioning. Pony society shouldn’t be too similar to human society, at least in the details.
 
I guess that something that bugs me in general. They’re magic horses. They shouldn’t be just like humans, even if they aren’t that similar to real horses.
 
As far as the matriarchy things goes, there’s a world of difference between preferring female leaders and denying males the right to vote. The second should only be a joke, but I have a feeling a few people have tried to play it seriously.

Pony society in my mind being matriarchal (or some derivative of being matriarchal) isn’t too outlandish in my mind. It’s something that’s cropped up in the real-world to some successful degree. Additionally, there’s some reason to believe woman would have had more power in tribal societies given that they’ve been known to bring in more food per-pound than men. And even older women in families are sort of treated with a certain reverence. Probably more in those as well.
 
Of course, with the shown gender ratio in the show it couldn’t really matter and females just have more precedent/power because there’s more of them per-pony than stallion. But I can expect this to play an impact on society in that it’s more likely a mare would be chosen over a stallion in a leadership role just because the population could be more accustomed to it.

A society where one gender is preferred or has any sort of advantage is not something I would ever be willing to associate with Equestria, period. It’s one of the few things I am vehemently opposed to, as far as headcanons go.

Are you as adamant about our real-world society where this is indeed the case, only in the opposite gender direction, as you are to the headcanon to which you’re referring here?

A strongly matriarchal society doesn’t necessarily imply all males are actively suppressed.
 
For all we know, Equestria couldn’t be pure Matrilineal either.

I’m against gender inequality as a whole, and I certainly don’t want to associate any amount of it with Equestria. I think anyone who does is just being absurd personally.
 
I’m not a fan of the idea that Equestria is some perfect super paradise with a perfect society, but there are things I would not want to see in Equestria, and that is simply one of them.

I think that Equestria used to be Equal between Mares and Stallions when Both Luna and Celestias Mom and Dad Where Equal Rulers, But when they retired and left it to thier daughters Being Both Females and potrayed as gods Mares Social Statuse Became Higher over the many years to the point that Only The Immortals Remember that There Once were A male alicorn

I’ve already literally exhausted myself with arguing about this with other people, so I really don’t have anything to say other than that, sorry.

The Equestria=Matriarchy one.
 
No, having women in positions of doesn’t make a region a matriachy. We already know of two examples of a unicorn king. Even if Sombra wasn’t the legitimate ruler of the CE, there is the unicorn king that was mentioned in Heartswarming Eve. We don’t know that much about Celestia and Luna’s pasts (especially how they became princesses) so don’t bring them up. And others.

Anyone who says Equestria is 90% mares. No it is not, those are just the main characters, of course we’ll see mostly mares if that’s what the main characters all are. Likewise if the mane 6 were all male, we’d likely see mostly stallions.
 
Both genders are there, just we don’t always see them, does not mean they don’t exist.
 
Also often said as ‘justification’ for lesbian ships. Yeah…no, don’t try and justify any ship, i don’t care who is shipped with who, it’s just a ship, no reason to try and make it seem more believable than another.

I’m not fond of any of the X character is really a complete and utter bitch headcanons or parodies. They can be kind of amusing for a little while if you’re a black hearted bastard like me, but after awhile it just becomes unpleasant and repetitive. Same goes for the various abuse/psycho interpretations. Amusing for awhile, but then they tire on me. The phrase the banality of evil springs to mind.
 
I also dislike the interpretations of pony society being inherently racist or classist or what not because they are usually handled so poorly and quite frankly a bit played out.
 
The “X villain was really just a misunderstood woobie” headcanons sort of infuriate me. I hate Draco in Leather Pants, and one of the best parts of the MLP comic series was that it showed Chrysalis as unabashedly evil, thus shooting down the “she just wanted to be loved” thing.
 
Other than that my policy is to pretty much ignore headcanons that irritate me, treat the sexual orientation of the characters as whatever amuses me at the time until canon disproves it, and just keep repeating the MST mantra.

I really don’t support the “Celestia is a sun goddess who can steamroll a whole entire army without breaking sweat” thing.
 
Like, did any of you see how Nightmare Moon couldn’t beat 5 village girls and Twilight Sparkle?

“Rarity is a slut” gets tiring after a while.

Okay I believe now that the writters and storyboard artists have taken some of these on that they moved from headcanon to actual canon;
 
-LyraxBon Bon While they could never come out and say it without causing the right wingers going nuts. It is now canon that they are at the very least very good/best friend to the point where they have saddle bag buckles of each other.
 
-Derpy and muffins again, she is now confirmed to at least like them enough to have a buckle of a muffin.
 
 
okay back to actual annoying ones for me;
 
Im afraid to say it, I think the cupcakes mythos has worn thin, these latest tumblr uploads we’re getting just show to me how it’s just turned into “get generic SAW-style torture and add ponies”.  
It was sorta fun and original to see these ponies killing and murdering as a joke due to how weird it was, but now so many people are doing it the effect is gone.
