How long should MLP go on for?

Look, I love MLP as much as the next brony. But let’s be honest here, how long should FiM go on for?
 
I’d love for it to go forever, but the sad truth is it has to end eventually. Sure Hasbro could make it live and milk every last penny, but do we really want that? Look at The Simpsons, Spongebob, Ben 10, all great shows but have become tired and have overstayed their welcome. I don’t want to remember the “good ol’ days” when FiM used to be good. I want to remember it always being good. I want it to stand the test of time and be remembered as something great, something that no-one had any faith in, and made it despite the odds being stacked against it. I remain confident S4 will be good, and await to see what the future might bring.

It already feels like a quick cash grab so i think one year more tops.

Season 4 is coming and it has every possibility to be fantastic or kill the series.  
We’ll just have to wait and see.

…Well, I feel it doesn’t.

I agree with Mungo to some extent. The way things are going, the writing for the characters is becoming more inconsistent (particularly Twilight’s and Pinkie’s). Season 4 has a chance to fix that, but if it doesn’t I think it should end at season 5 at the most.
 
This is the way I want things to go at least. Being a commercial license, the show will go on until it stops producing profit.

I bet the show will lose its quality at some point, but there will still be some bronies out there who overhype and overrate the show. And that would be obnoxious.

I don’t know really, Spongebob had only 3 good seasons(60 episodes) and it’s still remembered by all as a classic that had much much more episodes, we didn’t have the feeling that it needed any more because we were children, now we got used to the feeling of keep wanting more and more episodes because we’re afraid to let it go of something so great that came out after many years.  
I don’t think MLP needs to go so far, i want it to have its best time, not the most.
 
Final opinion: I think we can say goodbye to MLP on season 4.

Hmmm I’d say at the most 7 seasons.
 
I just don’t want it to end up like Spongebob and become mediocre.

Well, wether Hasbro realizes it or not, but the show is pretty much reaching the end of its arc now what with the main character ascending and no opposing threats remaining.
 
But I think we all know the show will go on and on until Hasbro stops jumping around on its corpse and accepts the fact that it has milked the cartoon drier than Star Wars has been exsanguinated by Lucas.

That’s why i think season 4 is already good, season 3 builded the beginning of the end and season 4 it’s how the characters deal with it, they’re like the same season split on 2 parts.

I honestly think the show still has a season left after S4.
 
Again, I really don’t think that the show has lost any of its punch. I know I’m in the minority here, but I genuinely believe that all of the seasons are good and think that the S3 finale was a step in the right direction.
 
In any case, I follow two mottos when it comes to the show:  
“Que sera, sera” and “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

I think the show will probably end after season 5. That just feels lik a natural stopping point.
 
THEN we await G5.

I’m really hoping they go for a “Darker and edgier” route with the next gen…to a certain limit though. IDW comic book levels at most.

Until they run out of stories worth telling.

I that case, they should’ve learned that G3 was their WORST selling point of their franchise.
 
Season 3 felt like a experiment season, though. Hopefully Se04 will be more refined.

It really depends whether or not they stay with a studio that cares. DHX Media Vancouver and the people involved in it obviously care more about what they make than whatever studio made G3. You can just tell by watching those that they for the most part didn’t really try that hard.

I believe most girls are absolutely fine with something a bit more mature and dark (and NOT involving sex and boyfriends and sparkly cock… I meant bloodsuckers).
 
Just look at Harry Potter. That story is very dark and mature in the later books and it has a massive female fanbase.
