Naming Fluttershy's Parents, Trixie's Mom, and the Sphinx

I don’t think it is. I think it’s a pretty small but really vocal minority all coming from the same group. Nothing against the guys who want it either, but I think they’re kind of turning people off of it by how hard they’re trying to push it :/

I heard about that today. Some people were having tag wars on some of her pictures with that name.

Agreed. Not only do I not care for it for similar reasons, but I don’t even think the name makes sense. She’s a character based on an Ancient Egyptian cat creature that is both merciless and tells riddles. Why name her after a Japanese plant? I really don’t see the connection.
 
I’d rather her not have a name but if she does get a name, I feel a name that’s related to Egypt or sphinxes seems more fitting than a Japanese one.

Ted Anderson never came up with a name for her. His twitter response to that question was something to the effect of “Maybe something with ‘showcase’ or ‘spectacle’ in it.”
 
This was years before Jack Pot appeared, so perhaps his thought at the time was that her mother was the magician in the family.

Sphinx = Sphinx  
Mr. Shy = Cloud Swirl (I think similar names were already mentioned.)  
Mrs. Shy = I support the Windy Curls proposal  
Trixie’s mom = Sundazzle (perhaps Sundazzle Lulamoon so we know where does Trixie’s last name come from?)

Her cutie mark looks like a cross between a sunflower, a sun, and a magic wand. Maybe they both were magicians.

I thought in the end of each episodr there’s a cast with the pony names and their voice actors, or there were just “Fluttershy’s mom” And “Fluttershy’s dad” ?

You’d be correct. For some characters, they get their official names shown and revealed to us in the credits. This is how we found out Garble’s name way back when he first appeared in the show.
 
But other times, they don’t give the character a proper name. That’s what happened with Fluttershy’s parents and the Sphinx.
 
And in some rare cases, some fan preferred to stick with the fan name of a character instead of the official ones. For example, Derpy was listed in the credits as Muffins.

I agree with the sentiment. Jinxy is more character than creature. Where is everyone pulling Kusu from? Was there a popular fan fiction I haven’t seen?

I have a tip for that. If you get logged out of your account always remember to click remember me under where you type your email and password so that way you’ll stay logged for as long as you want. Trust me it works for me every time.

Also lets compromise and name the Sphinx “Jinxsu”.

I also agree the Sphinx should be unnamed. The concept of the nameless, ancient terror just works well IMO.

Posey Shy for Mrs. Shy sounds ok.
 
Nimbus Breeze feels a bit, harsh on the tongue and has a bit of a, I don’t know. Trying to respectful. But anyway, Nimbus is also Latin for ‘dark cloud’.
 
Cumulus Breeze - Fluttershy’s Dad  
Definition for cumulus - “cloud forming rounded masses heaped on each other above a flat base at fairly low altitude.” Has Fluttershy’s dad written all over it.

Ya but an ancient named terror is just as effective. We COULD keep the name as Sphinx and individual creators could pick their own names, that way everyone’s happy.

That would create a very chaotic tagging problem. We’re suggesting and voting on official Derpibooru tags. Not dictating what the rest of the fandom should only call them.

Hey man I’d rather have Sphinx picked than Kusu or yixadixadoximox any day of the week.  
Jinxys short and cute but I can totally jive with people who just want the name to stay as it is

True, however its hard to deny that changing a character name on the worlds largest pony archive wouldn’t effect how the fandom names the character overall.
