…Well, darn, turns out that only the upstairs TV that my parents use has the cable plan that features Discovery Family, and my TV that I use downstairs only has the basic cable plan that doesn’t have that channel.
 
So much for getting to watch episodes live again…

It’s so great watching Mean 6 with someone who likes it and likes the idea of it.

I’d say read the Rainbow Dash and Spitfire Friends Forever comic as it’s one of Spitfire’s best appearances imo, and one of the very few times a Wonderbolt gets characterization beyond “asshole”

But like, I sometimes get the vibe that he’s just trying to be nice. I didn’t get that vibe from the Mean 6. He seemed to genuinely find it really funny.
 
What I find interesting is how much he loved Surf and/or Turf. With it being the best rated episode he’s given for this season so far.

Compared to the hordes of make believe savants forgetting its a children’s saturday morning cartoon and taking it way too seriously and whining about the most ridiculous things.

Even if I did agree(for the record I don’t think they’re assholes, but I don’t think the show has done a very good job with them, and to me, even at best they just seem to be “a group of good fliers that fly with RD” and little else), generally most of their appearances tend to be incredibly controversial among a majority of people and the show hasn’t really done a good job of getting a lot of people to change their minds, and I feel a lot of that is because the show rarely does anything else noteworthy with them. I say this a lot but for as much as I crap on the comics, one thing I give the comics over the show is that they’re portrayal of them is really good, they actually feel like RD’s friends and have lots of moments I think should have been in a show

The only reason their appearances are “controversial” is the same reason RD fans throw whiny bitch fits for half of her episodes.
 
Because everyone and everything dosent get on their knees, kiss her ass, and treat her like a goddess.
 
Wind Rider and Rainbow Falls are the only depictions of them being jerks.

Dude this has been a regular complaint for the longest time, both from people who like her and hate her, it has nothing to do with being a fucking fanboy. Go to any website, from EQD to fucking 4chan(who’s known for having a big hateboner for RD) episodes like Newbie Dash and Rainbow Falls are criticized for that reason and regularly rank low among both their respective seasons and the entire show, even better episodes like Rarity Investigates and even Hurricane Fluttershy this was an incredibly common complaint with how Spitfire and the Wonderbolts were portrayed, even if you disagree
 
Enough with this conspiracy theory that RD fans are going out of their way to tarnish the supposed good name of episodes like Newbie Dash and the Wonderbolts and just accept that they’re fucking controversial

Man. The Wonderbolts were truly assholes. Because they gave her a terrible nickname. Like everyone else in the Wonderbolts has. Including Spitfire who Rainbow Dash even acknowledged as worse than her own nickname. Or how Fleetfoot even gave her an opportunity to air her problems.
 
Rarity Investigates? Once again, I listed Wind Rider. Because no one else in the episode was a jerk to Rainbow Dash.
 
And Hurricane Fluttershy? Really? How in the world was Spitfire a jerk at all in the episode?
 
Let’s not degrade the reality by calling it a conspiracy theory. The reality is that the Wonderbolts aren’t this group of almighty assholes. Beyond Wind Rider and Rainbow Falls they’ve been depicted as normal. Which is most of their appearances.

No, I do get what you’re saying. I even agree in some cases. I just think he genuinely liked Mean 6. He might have been partially riding the high of not being spoiled on the whole episode. He knew about Chrysalis because he got spoiled and was desperately hoping her reveal wasn’t supposed to be a climactic twist.

No it doesn’t, their portrayal was one of the most controversial things about the episode, no one can agree whether they were portrayed well or if they were assholes, in the end of the day the episode did them no favors
 

 
People didn’t like how Spitfire never helped out when they couldn’t get the tornado working. Whether you disagree with it(I sure as hell do) is irrelevant because it’s still a common complaint
 

 
People didn’t like how the Wonderbolts immediately accused RD in the beginning. Again this is something I disagree with but nonetheless it’s one of the episode’s most common complaints
 
Honestly any time the show puts any focus on the WB it either ends up biting them or is the very bare minimum of effort put into them. There’s a lot more they could do with them but all of the interesting stuff that could be a great episode is left to fucking secondary material like comics and books

None of that is controversy. It’s a bunch of idiotic fans whining. If any of it was an actual controversy we’d actually have some grey area stuff. Not something so black and white and people throwing bitch fits.

I just didn’t want to appear as one of those guys who feels like no one is allowed to have fun.
 
I also know I’m pretty alone in disliking The Mean 6. I know it’s an episode that has gotten mostly positive reception, but my problems with it are mostly on a personal level.

Kissing Rainbow’s ass and being jerks towards her are the only two options.

I am a /mlp/ semi regular and I don’t remember any notorious RD hatred outside of the ocassional thread whinning about RD and Lighting Dust’s unfair punishment. And even then, these threads barely receive any replies anyway.
