Welp, I belive it’s time for another review.
As for today’s continuation of ruiniation of my once beloved show, it was, as to be expected, bad.
That’s the kind way of saying it.
At this point, I can congratulate the writter of this episode for getting to the Netherrealm level of writting, and I can’t wait for WB games to adopt them after the show is ended, to write for upcoming Mortal Kombat titles.
Jokes aside, I haven’t seen this much incompetence in writting (staff) and in acting (In universe characters) ever since Mortal Kombat Reboot came out. This is, hands down, the worst episode so far.
I know I said that a week ago, but it seems that DHX is trying to one up with every new one coming out. It also seems like they gave up on logic and anything that would make sense.
This episode made me wonder why equestria still exist, and how ponies iside it aren’t bloody extinct yet. Scene with Braeburn and the others reminded me about AI of enemies in any stealth video game on a bloody easy mode. Even if we don’t count the obvious plothole that those exactly same ponies were already under the influence of Tirek’s “sucking”, so they should have known what was going on for cring out loud, they show that ponies in equestria have no survival instinct.
“Oh? What’s that? My friend died in the bushes over there? Hm, let’s go check it out. What’s the worst that can happen?”
Can someone please explain to me how Equestria has over 1k years, when ponies in it apparently didn’t developed a brain yet?
Somehow they still manage to get fooled by Cozy Glow, who, may I remind you, is a serious enough criminal to be locked up in Tartarus. She is responsible from disabling magic in the whole land. You know, something worthy of being on front page of every newspaper in Equestria. How can anyone still belive her?
Also, nothing better than continutiy, right? In last episode Twilight Sparkle went mental, so to prove “character development” we gotta make her to be completly calm and colected now? Do anybody in DHX even know what “Character Development” is? They should ethier have not air previous episode, and Twilight’s character development in this one would feel belivable, or not make her character change 180 degrees between 2 episodes, that are specifically mentoin to be happening right after the other. Yes, her behaviour on the Trivia show could be concidered a “wake up call” about her freaking out problems, but it wasn’t portrayed like that at all.
Now, it’s not to say that only the good guys behave like they don’t have 2 braincells to stick together, Villians (except of Lady Bug) aren’t much better.
We are less than a half of a season till the finalie, and we still have no idea on how does Grogar’s plan even look. In every villian centred episode, he spits a few lines, f****s off for the most of it and comes back at the end to say some more lines that do not tell us anything. I’m all for the cryptic masterminds, but they HAVE TO* at least give us some hit to what thier plan might be about. Something that we can rest our theories on, a base for them. Grogar didn’t give us a single thing ever since he bloody appeared in the show. Hell, the plan that the evil trio came up with doesn’t seem very good, but at least they HAVE a plan. Unless it was Grogar’s plan from the start, to have those 3 fetch the items for him that he needed, while making them belive that he is oblivious to thier plans (which is a stupid plan in it’s own rights) then…
While on the topic of the trio. We got another stellar performace from the Queen, as she seems to be the brains of the operation. Her idea was pretty decent, and (since she used a form that nobody was familiar with) her deception was belivable. The way she tricked the birds in the castle was also very clever. She’s definately what I’m looking forward the most in the finalie.
The same can’t be said about other 2. Since I’ve already mentoined them while talking about ponies, and why thier plans didn’t make much sense, there is only one thing I can still complain about.
Why did Tirek give back the power he stole from the ponies? He never explained what the point of it was. Since the ponies blamed thier ill state on the food, why would he give thier powers back, possibly risking them uncovering the real reason they lost thier power? Not mentoining that one of those royal guards litterally was face to face with Tirek and Cozy. Since it would be impossible for thier cover to not be blown because of this, why give back power instead of using it once the conflict starts?
I won’t talk anymore about Cozy Glow, as she proved herself to be especially stupid when instead of pulling out the book out of the chain, she used another book (WTF) to break the chain. Seriously DHX? Couldn’t you use glass instead of chain? Then her action would at least make some sense.
There is only one thing to mentoin here. I don’t want people to find anger in this review, but sadness. Up untill season 8, MLP’s wirting was at least passable. What happend? I geniuenly don’t know why the writting got so bad out of the sudden. Character behaving out of thier respective character, 180 degree personality changes, behaviour taken straight from primitive AI.
This episode hits me the hardest out of all of them, as Braeburn is one of my favorite male characters in the show. I know he was always used as a comic relief, but… it was his final appearance. Why couldn’t we have him act smart for his last appearance in the show? How many ponies will have thier characters ruined becaused of DHX’s lack of competent writters?
We are getting seriously close to the point, where I’d actually want MLP to “fizzle out” like Doctor Who did in the 90’, instead of having “final season” which will only turn the characters I used to love, into mere shadows of thier former self. Sunburst, Cheese Sandwitch, Braeburn are only a few examples of it.
Whatever will the next episode be about, I hope it will treat the characters as they deserve to be treated. I really hope that it will be good.
