So… a detail I really liked about Episode 25 is how Twilight and Spike were shown to be quite happily hugging, right after the petrification happened with those three.
They really are family. Brother and sister.
Unfortunately, it seems like there isn’t a screencap of that.
However, something there is a screencap of is them hugging, before their presumed collective end.

The changelings were presented as inherently evil and parasitic in their first episode and then suddenly changed to be pitiful cowards living in fear of Chrysalis thereafter. The instant they were promised freedom from her, the vast majority of them (as in “all of them except Pharynx”) embraced friendship and had a Friendship Transformation (“colorized”). This is yet another direct pander to the fandom’s waifu-ism, out of many.
Pharynx was completely and voluntarily on board with Chrysalis, which makes him an asshole. He was not an equal asshole to Chrysalis, obviously, as he eventually colorized and she did not. He was merely the last changeling to do so by a wide timeframe.

I LOVE Twilight’s angry look. I always felt that there was a lack of badass nerds in fiction, but Twi is definitely one of them. More pissed than scaring at the prospect of failure and death. That’s why I loved Gohan in DBZ too (Well, before the Buu saga happened).

Thorax still had to convince others to live with the new way, well into S7.
The episode where Pharynx appeared was four episodes later, that is to say, episode 19 of S7, so it’s not actually “by a wide timeframe” that he was the only one, it’s just that it wasn’t directly shown onscreen.
Here’s my problem. There’s this renegade group of changelings who still feed off of love. Even though I said, “Hey let’s not do that anymore,” they say, “Hey, this is how we’ve been doing things for hundreds of years…” [crossfades] …but it’s like they don’t want to, even though I’m the leader and I have to… [fades out]

Okay, I know it’s been like a week since the finale aired but does anyone else feel… conflicted about it?
One side of me despises the Grogar twist and how short and anticlimactic the final battle was, but another side of me really likes a lot of the episodes’ moments, such as Starlight’s rematch against Chrysalis and the “Equestria Assemble” moment. I think I’m starting to lean more towards loving the finale, though.

The finale has it’s strengths and weaknesses overall. But the one thing I think ends up bringing it down for a LOT of people was the Grogar Was Discord In Disguise twist, which not only robbed us of a high stakes climax, but assassinated Discord’s character on a multitude of levels.

I don’t really see how it was character assassination for Discord. Seems perfectly reasonable for him to want to help Twilight’s coronation in his own chaotic way.

Seriously, it’s been clear that he fancies himself as a Trickster Mentor to Twilight since the S4 premiere.
This was taking it to its natural conclusion, coupled with his signature character flaws of arrogance and “I’m too good to think everything through with detail, cover every avenue of failure.”
If this is supposedly out of character for Discord, then I think they have a softer view of how he can be.
He’s literally a Q expy voiced by the same actor. It would be more surprising if he was a better person than Starlight by the last season.

Discord’s magic being able to accurately cast specific spells, impersonate a villain along with it’s demeanor and manage to trick everyone for so long as a spirit of chaos that’s shown to be unstable all the damn time is what made it nonsensical.
He essentially went full circle and ass-pulled flawless order out of pure chaos.

I think that was more of a case of the writers realizing that the changelings were too powerful to stay evil.

I don’t really see how it was character assassination for Discord.
It really wasn’t. It does make for a legitimately unexpected and surprising twist, which may or may not be everyone’s cup of tea (personally it only made me like the ending episodes more), but nothing about it was out of character for Discord.

Exactly. And much like Q, the character he shares more than just a voice with, his lessons usually involve a fair amount of difficulty to whomever he’s trying to teach (case and point, Q’s “space is dangerous” lesson which involved throwing the Federation’s flagship directly into conflict with the Borg).

I’m not sure why his ability to impersonate Grogar is so unbelievable. Discord is one of the few there old enough to possibly have known the real one, and even if he hadn’t, none of the other villains recruited ever knew Grogar personally. The only thing Sombra mentions is having heard of him. Tirek and Chrysalis remember tales and legends about him, with some doubts as to whether he was even real, and Cozy Glow doesn’t know who he is at all and doesn’t seem to have heard of him either. It’s really the perfect part to play.
And as for the other stuff, when was it ever the case that Discord’s magic couldn’t be used for specific purposes? Sure, he tends to do a lot of random stuff with it, and the episode makes it pretty clear that controlling chaos magic isn’t the same as controlling other varieties, but the episode also suggests that so long as you know it’s secret you can do anything with it up to literally remaking the universe.
And as for the other stuff, when was it ever the case that Discord’s magic couldn’t be used for specific purposes? Sure, he tends to do a lot of random stuff with it, and the episode makes it pretty clear that controlling chaos magic isn’t the same as controlling other varieties, but the episode also suggests that so long as you know it’s secret you can do anything with it up to literally remaking the universe.

I think this scene with Q practically breathes Discord’s logic with Twilight… except, ironically enough, Discord is probably nicer.
Discord’s literally conjured up a volcano with his magic before, and he made his coloring look like Celestia’s before, complete with the ethereal mane.
In addition, he’s shapeshifted multiple times.
Hell, he turned himself into three butterflies in his debut.
Discord has come across as being very knowledgeable about magic, considering his extreme range of abilities and power, throughout the series. Magic coloring seems like child’s play. And if he knows some sort of resurrection spell, or whatever it was that brought Sombra back, then Discord can do that. I don’t see why that’s worth sweating.
In addition, Discord was outright shown to be taking notable lengths of absences throughout S9. His scene in Frenemies where he said this…

Can’t Discord control reality though? In very specific, isolated ways? (like taking Twilight’s horn or RD’s wings away) He’s impersonated a unicorn using telekinesis before, complete with magic aura around his horn and the item in question. I’m not sure what pretending to be Grogar contradicts.
