Summer Sun Setback
A pretty decent episode that will nonetheless make past episodes look even worse in hindsight due to the leap in logic it will introduce.

Do you think we’ll have long to wait after FIM for new pony stuff?

…So wait, we’re gonna have a three day wait between Episode 25 and 26, because of Australia?
Crap.

Oh, wow, I’m seeing some serious pushback from very dedicated Twilight fans.
I’m legit curious about the reaction they’ll have to next week’s episode.

In the same way a Nascar race is most entertaining when someone crashes.

They must be exacting revenge on the people who’ve mocked them for losing a war against birds.

Okay, I guess.
I can understand why Twilight had to be written as an over the top moron in this episode, but I still couldn’t like it.

Twilight seems like she was written the way she was in A Trivial Pursuit to deliberately contrast her portrayal in future episodes, especially the one immediately following it.
She seems like she’s gonna keep a lot more composure for the rest of the show.
In a later episode, she calmly let Starlight talk herself through her problems she ran into in A Horse Shoe-In, with Trixie, and gave her a good bit of advice, after casually undoing the entire mess that happened because of an accident on Trixie’s part.
In the episode immediately following this one, she didn’t freak out, at all.
Oh, and Twilight was calm in Dragon Dropped too, being one of the reasonable characters.

Because the next episodes uses this mess to justify her suddenly doing away with Twilighting overnight.
If you enjoy Twilighting in the first place, congrats, the episodes you liked were purposefully making her go crazy to justify a hard reboot of her personality.
If you don’t enjoy it, you get to have it shoved in your face just long enough for you to give up on the character.
Instead of a gradual change, we’re treated to a “Through hell and back” scenario in which Twilight crosses the line HARD and fully embraces being a neurotic mess, then doubles back and suddenly fully embraces her plot armor and the peace of mind that allows her.
So yeah. I feel both parties are gonna be disappointed next week.

To remind the audience about her problem with her nervous breakdowns before the next episode, where she suddenly gets over them as part to her preparation to take Equestria’s reins.
From a writing and storytelling perspective it makes sense, but the way as it was implemented was as subtele as a brick to the face.

I blame the school and students episodes for taking time and episode slots that could have been used to introduce a gradual, more beliveable change about Twilight’s personality and maturity.
