To be fair, Harmony has only ever killed two things, Sombra, and the Mean Six. Both seem to be more collections of dark magic given form than normal flesh and blood ponies. Most things it simply depowers, purifies or turns to stone.
 
Given Chrysalis isn’t made of dark magic, wasn’t attacking the tree, and was a lot further away, it’s possibly the tree simply didn’t notice her or see her as a threat.

Yet harmony was used again at then end?

I’m glad that didn’t happen (with a few exceptions of course, like there always is) this time. I wanted this series to end in a good note and with the fan base not getting even more divided.

So, its Fiendship is Magic #2 canon now?

Yeah, the explosion already happened, and its being settled down.  
The people who hated it probably left, and the most positive one stayed, which explains why you mostly find positive reception in this episodes.

It was always the plan, with only the details changing over time. And yes, he should probably have taken responsibility rather than just pinning all the blame on his patsies.

But he never claimed to be trying to redeem them. He was just using them to make Twilight look good, like he used the winterzilla to make Fluttershy look good in Best Gift Ever.

Pretty problematic, especially due to Sombra. There are ways the problems could be mitigated, but the show didn’t use enough of them.

In fact, I believe I saw it mentioned elsewhere that this was the first time other characters saw fit to apply further punishment to those that Harmony had already meted out judgement to.

i prefer this canon reason. Discord wanting to be the well-meaning trickster mentor but going too far because he’s way too confident in his ability to handle the villains.

also love how it’s canon now that Tirek has daddy issues, among resenting his brother for betraying him and being devoted to his “Gram Gram” xD

The only thing that bothers me is how both princesses and the Mane 6 didnt bother in mention the Tree’s destruction also being part of Discord’s blame. Did the Student Six even knew this?

Q: So was “Grogar” not using the remains of Sombra’s horn to resurrect him meant to be a hint towards that?
