I think a big fault of it is that she was meant to be a one-off character, as Equestria Girls was only supposed to be a single special, and even after it was decided that it’d continue Sunset was not supposed to have a major role in Rainbow Rocks. But she was given a lead role and the rest is history.
 
If you ignore the comics (which I do) then we don’t know much about her besides the fact she was a former student of Celestia’s that left after they had a disagreement. Nothing about wanting to be an alicorn (though wanting to be a Princess implies it), just that she wanted too much too fast.
 
The series has done very little to remedy that.

It hurts, you know? Put a lot of my time and heart into loving this character but she fell off and so have I.

I like Sunset well enough. She’s had a pretty decent character arc overall.
 
As for parents or lack thereof you could always just steal the “She’s an orphan” theory away from Scootaloo. XD
 
The only thing I wonder is how she affords such a nice apartment on a high school student working at a Sushi restaurant waitress salary. I mean in Monday Blues that looked like a pretty nice/big loft she had. My theory is Principle Celestia helps pay the rent, either that or Sunset has a lot of stolen lunch money saved up from when she used to be a bully. XD

That apartment she lives in seems to be a row house, which are usually abandoned or condemned. They’re also usually found in not very nice neighborhoods, and judging from how ancient most of the place looks, was also not very well maintained before she got it. I mean, if you look closely, Sunset seemly doesn’t even have proper light fixtures in the place, she just has a string of lights and a bigass window. Most of her furniture also look like they were salvaged from a scrapyard too.

Probably, President Mayor Mare most likely saved the economy, stopped Global Warming and ended war for all time. XD
 
Meanwhile we’re Stuck in this Hell hole that might not even have pony after 2020. :(
 
Speaking of economy I wonder how FIM potentially ending will effect the collectors market that’s grown for pony merch? Will it make prices sky-rocket or pull a Beanie Babies and everything worthless!?
 
 
But yea, Back to the show, I’ll admit I’m one of those weirdos that likes EQG a tiny bit more then FIM overall at this point. But again that’s probably me obsessing over what it could be over what it actually is.
 
And the fact The Dazzlings, Juniper, SciTwi & Sunset have become some of my favorite characters, though I admit Juniper is mostly due to design as she hasn’t had much of a redeemable personality in the specials she appeared in.

Count me in that camp. Still love FIM, but I keep more up-to-date with EQG.

You know whenever EQG eventually gets a reboot as well I wonder what a G2 of EQG would be like? Personally I think something like this could work.
 
-Hu-Mane 7 and others are all descendents of mythological creatures/dieties.
 
-Sunset is actually Celeatia’s Daughter this time, personality basically the same as her reformed G1 Version. Gets picked on for being the Principle Celestia & Luna’s Daughter/Niece. Is still an Empath but also has elemental fire magic due to her mother Celestia being a goddess in hiding.
 
-Twilight is Sunsets best friend, smart/adorkable Descendent of ancient dark God of knowledge, is afraid of losing control to her dark side.
 
-Fluttershy: Shy, caring & gentle but with occasional temper Descendent of Gia Everfree, earth elemental powers
 
-Rainbow Dash: School jock, cocky & egotistical but with a heart of gold. Descendent of Hermes.
 
Rarity: basically the same char, a tad more vain at first. Gem/magnetism based Magic. Descendent of Aphrodite.
 
Applejack: Rough & Tumblr, honest, easy to anger,protective of her family & friends, super strength, descendent of Hercules.
 
Pinkie Pie: Basically the same, chaos based Magic, descendent of Discord.
 
The Dazzlings: Basically The Heathers, descendents of sirens, emotion manipulation magic.
 
 
Or you know, something like that. But that’s judt my silly fan idea.

Despite the leaks, we still don’t know what future lies ahead for EG but we do for S8, S9 and G5.

But yea I still think the current incarnation of EQG will last a bit even past FIM’s rumoured end and G5 reboot given it is 3 years FIM’s younger. So I could see this version of EQG staying around till 2023 or so myself.
 
Hopefully when/if it does get an actual overhaul as opposed to just costume redesigns like it did this year it can be just as good, if not better then the current version. Maybe get some Star VS or Miraculous Ladybug peeps to work on episodes, that would be nice.

They can’t keep Equestria Girls going after the end of G4 unless they cut all ties to Friendship is Magic, because having two different pony continuities going at the same time is not a good idea.
 
I still think they’re going to do a “the portal is going to close forever” plot eventually with Sunset choosing to stay where she is.

I mean, we do to a slight extent, but nowhere near as pronounced as the others. Which I am glad about, since - as much as I want to know more about where they’re going - having it all be spoiled for me would just ruin the anticipation and hype.

Yeah, even as someone who is more into EqG than FiM at this point (due to it having more untapped potential), I feel it still running after FiM ends would just be too weird to really work.
 
 
And yep, I’m with everyone else in that I can’t wait for what the later shorts will have to offer. One of few things I was spoiled by from the leak was that one of them was 10 minutes long, AND was a 3-parter.

Not true Hasbro has multiple Transformers continuitues going on at the same time. So EQG continuing to exist as a subset within the MLP brand is more then possible. Just like the comics, movies and rescue bots brand are different then whatever the main cartoon is at the time.
 
Again they would have to make some tweaks and probably destroy potential for any future visits back to Equestria, but it could still more then easily continue on as it’s own thing. Focus more on growing the brand to stand on it’s own two feet like they are with the shorts.

However, a title card named Forgotten Friendship has been leaked and it contains beachside which reinforces the teaser trailer released that “A Friendship to Remember” is being animated.

The scenario in the beach episode looks almost the same like the book, and the girls are in, what it seems to be, a parking lot. If you remember, the girls recovered their memories in a parking lot.

Another way they could justify continuing on past FIM would be if they did a storyline where you had crazy wobbly wobbky time/space magic shenanigans happen due to insert villain of the week here That causes characters like Sunset and The Dazzlings existences to be fully folded into the EQG world. Not like such soft reboots/retcon haven’t happened in fiction before.
 
But yea at the end of the day no one knows what the future holds for sure. We will just have to wait and see. Until then we still have the Digital Shorts & CYOA series to enjoy.
 
And personally i’m still hoping we can get an Equestria Girls comic once Legends of Magic Wraps up.

Shadow Play already folded EQG into FIM.
 
Would be nice for them to dive right in now that they’ve dipped their toes.

If FIM were still going on indefinitely I’d be all for that. Sunset visiting Equestria proper, the Dazzlings going back only to be shocked they now have ordinary pony bodies. XD
 
But with FIM potentially ending at Season 9 probably best to keep the cross pollination to a minimum.
 
 
But yea still think EQG could pull a Rescue Bots and meander on after FIM ends as it’s own thing within the overall property while the core version moves forward.
