While I’m not expecting everyone to love him, but acting like he’s Satan himself and hating him for the “crime” of not having much development or so much as looking at Twilight is completely pointless. That kind of hate is better directed towards Blueblood, Spoiled Rich, Garble, pre-reformation Diamond Tiara, Gladmane and Svengallop, characters that have actually DONE SOMETHING to warrent such hatred.
 
Flash? He exists.
 
You see where I’m going with this. Heck, characters like Trixie and Diamond Tiara developed into better characters even when some people outright despised them, Flash is no exception.
 
The problem is that Flash-haters can’t be bothered to acknowledge it because it’s easier just to hate him and use the same old “he’s bland” excuse. Treating his character like he’s a main character who is taking up tons of screen time even though it’s the exact opposite of that, they act like it’s okay for BG ponies to get special treatment but not Flash even though he is not presented as a main character, why should he be hated so much and not be allowed to be given any characteristics or traits but the BG ponies get a free pass with the same restraints?
 
He’s a supporting character at best and a BG character at worst, and I can point out SEVERAL “ham sandwiches” who had a few lines and/or screentime throughout the series, but WE gave them that development, hence why the 100th episode was made. We come from a fandom that where we can take a character that sits differently and make her into a human obsessed nut, a character with an animation error on her eyes and make her into a muffin obsessed ditz, a DJ that had less than two seconds of screentime and make her a party animal that’s dating that one mare from the gala episode, or that one gaming colt that had a two second cameo and make him Sweetie Belle’s love interest.
 
Do I need to go on? Bottom line, as Bronies we’ve been nitpicking small aspects of several characters and giving them their own personalities since the show started, so to whine about Flash being bland is not only lazy, but also hypocritical.
 
As I’v3e said before: Flash-hate is pointless, hypocritical, and just plain STUPID.

Just because a character doesn’t actively do things that warrant dislike, doesn’t mean they are exempt from the same dislike.
 
I have my reasons, I’ve explained them. They may fall under the same category as other people, they may not. I know some people just hate him for the sake of hating him, I am not so simple. You can write them off as merely pointless or stupid, but that is simply YOUR opinion. And just saying it over and over doesn’t make it true.

Oh boy. I don’t really care for Flash either.
 
My main reason being that he was made just to be a pretty boy love interest.

Personally, I prefer mlp doesn’t introduce the special love interest scenario anymore. And if he somehow ended up in the series… I just hope he doesn’t :(

I wouldn’t mind a love interest scenario if they could actually do it right. If Twilight must have a boyfriend, make it someone from the series that everyone already likes. Sure shippers’d get mad, but at least it’d feel normal.

Naturally he is undeveloped and is literally just there for the sake of being there. Personally if twilight were to get a boyfriend, I’d want this stallion to be worth it, not just some side character who just stands there scratching his plot.
 
A real stallion, preferably one who saves her in an episode. Turn the plot around and introduce to the series, the first stallion hero. In the end I think it’s more or less the fact that flash wasn’t given the right spotlight, nor the right development or character. He’s introduced as the casual layed back school boy with an absolutely unlikable character with a sense of absence from the screen, I mean, He’s barely ever in the room at all. A useless side character brought up directly as a love interest, which is very irritating. I hate to say it, but at least in the Twilight saga we got a scene of the vampire guy saving the girl. We have development right there where it lacks in this particular case with flash.
 
I could talk all day about what’s wrong with him, but I think what irritates us all the most is that he was introduced souly to be a love interest. Instead of them easing their way through it they made him just exist.

That’s why it’s better to actually try to make him interesting instead of complaining about how bland he is. However Flash-haters like you are so focused on him being “standard high school love interest” and hating him for that instead of regarding how one could salvage him, and won’t even say “This is how to make Flash a better character”. We’ve already seen some of that “perfect” layer peeled off and he’s clearly not Mr Perfect. He has flaws and quirks that makes him likeable.
 
The problem is that some people don’t want him to be made better, that complain that he’s too bland because it’s easier to do, they complain about the problem but won’t offer any solutions outside to “remove him from the series forever”. Why? Because making him interesting takes effort, effort that they don’t want to put into Flash because it’s much easier to hate him and treat him like dirt then to make him likable.
 
 
That fact is that you simply accept the idea that being bland is all Flash is meant to be, even though he’s basically as much of a blank slate that can be given a personality like as any other BG/supporting character. Again, Bronies have been given taking something small and make something big from it. Unlike haters like you who keep complaining about the exact same thing over and over without trying to see it from a different point of view, at least those of us have the maturity to adapt and compromise instead of just taking everything at face value and complaining about how he shouldn’t exist and how he deserves to be treated like the fandoms cancer.
 
At least characters like Glademsne, Blueblood, Spoiled Rich, Garble, and Svengallop did something to WARRANT the fandom’s hatred.
 
Flash? He exists.

I like his car, I’d like to own something like that. As in a toy car or even a real car.

We’ve given other BG/side/supporting characters their own character and personalities with even less than that, and yet somehow Flash is an impossible character to do the same for?

A small characteristic could be pointed out over the course of each and every one of these movies with just a bit of looking, so the complaint that he’s “bland” is both irrelevant and hypocritical.
 
 
The steal a quote from Overwatch: “Don’t see something for what it is, see it for what it could be.”
 
 
Flash exists, and he’s going to continue to exist. Either deal with it or go back complaining about your lost waifu.

I’d like to hear Flash Sentry sing, especially since Trixie and Rainbow Dash got their own solo songs in Rainbow Rocks.

I do find him bland. His entire purpose was to be the cool guy the nerdy new girl fell in love with. The concept behind his creation alone is just shallow.

Not really, the main difference is that as I’ve said before:
 
Flash-haters only care about problems.
 
Flash-Supporters try to provide solutions.
 
 
The problem is that they continuously setup limitations for yourself in the form of “he’s bland, he’s a cliche, he’s a Gary Stu, that’s all he is, it’s too integrated into his character to make interesting”.
 
Those are not reasons, those are just excuses.
 
And whenever someone brings up something that could be used to make him interesting, they either ignore it, or dismiss it as impossible to the point where their argument can be summed up as this:
 
“He’s got no character.”
 
“Well, what about [insert character trait here]?”
 
“That doesn’t count.”

We’ve been doing that for nearly every bg/side-character.
 
By your logic Derpy is still nothing more than an animation fuck-up that got lucky, Octavia is just a cellist that does nothing else, Thunderlane is just some random Pegasus, and Bulk Biceps is just a muscular idiot.
 
Hell, look at Vinyl Scratch, she’s basically a female Flash Sentry:
 
Has no character aside from being a mute DJ.
 
Has close connections with one of the mane cast.
 
Has a cool car that can also transform.
 
Pretty much almost the same aspects that Flash has, yet everyone loves her.
 
Heck Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were stereotypical rich snobby schoolyard bullies, and they both got fixed in the span of one episode even though they basically insulted a handicapped pony.
 
If that can be done to those characters then Flash Sentry isn’t the lost cause, the problem is that the haters just want him to be one.
 
As I said, “Don’t see something for just what it is, try and see it for what it could be.”
 
Even the blankest of canvases can be made into something magnificent if we take the time to do so. Heck, many people outright hated the idea of bringing back MLP because of G3…
