While there’s a lull in conversation I figure I should state my exact opinions on the legal side of all this, for future reference or comparison. It’s late, so forgive the ramblingness.

No, I do not support the idea of a giant, sweeping law that restricts the rights of a current or would-be artist from drawing whatever they want. What I would be in support of is an addendum to fair use, or whichever law is applicable, that makes it so companies no longer face losing their rights if they knowingly allow third parties (us) to create fan art of their properties. It’s not like you would forget who the source was, after all.

For art styles, rather than specific IPs? That’s a little trickier. Yes, I agree that you can’t copyright a style, because that’s a nasty, jagged slippery slope I’d rather not explore. Certain companies already do what they can to claim ownership over specific words, so restricting visual language like that is just straight up a shit idea.

That said, AI images that copy an artist’s style still get deleted from Derpi. There’s no legal side to that, but it’s still seen as an infringement, which I’m in agreement with. Maybe that’s more of an emotional reaction than something I can put into proper words, though. I’m tired, so someone else can do it for me.

Obviously I have many problems with AI-generated art, but the most important issue I have with it is and always has been the very beginning; the non-consensual scraping of every image on the internet, ownership, copyright, and content be damned. It was lazy and immensely immoral, and those two factors serve as the foundation of my hatred for this technology. There are many other reasons that spawned from that, of course - competition, dilution, aggression - as well as questions - why didn’t these companies ask permission from giant, scary media companies like Disney, if nothing else? - but that initial scraping will always be the big stopping point for me. If a generator comes along that sourced its images ethically, gaining permission and granting compensation to the owners of its training data, then alright. Smaller problems persist such as the “lazy convenience” aspect, but it would be a form of this technology I could just about tolerate coexisting with.

I just re-watch the pre-release speedrun of BG3. It’s interesting how much they changed the nautiloid changed in the final version.

Los F-5 no son aviones soviéticos, de hecho fueron fabricados en los Estados Unidos en la década de los 60s, en el contexto de la Guerra Fría y la Guerra de Vietnam… No obstante, sirvieron como modelos para los ficticios Mig-28 de la película “Top Gun” de 1986.

La historia de cómo llegó el Northrop F-5 a México es bastante curiosa, y es que a finales de los 70s y comienzos de los 80s, México necesitaba aviones de combate supersónicos de tercera generación para reemplazar a los jets Havilland Vampire (aunque éstos ya no operaban en la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana desde 1967). En un principio, la primera opción era el IAI Kfir, de fabricación israelí, del cuál se pretenían obtener 24 cazas, así como la creación de una cadena de producción del Kfir en dicho país para la venta del modelo a los países de América Latina; no obstante, el acuerdo no se concretó, debido principalmente a que la empresa israelí había pedido demasiadas condiciones que no coincidían con la opción de búsqueda de la FAM. Finalmente, Estados Unidos aprovechó la oportunidad y, en 1981, vendió al Gobierno mexicano, bajo el programa FMS Peace Aztec, del Foreign Military Sales (programa de venta de material bélico al extranjero) el avión de combate F-5E Freedom Fighter. En 1982, la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana recibió 10 F-5E Freedom Fighter y dos F-5F Tiger II. Estos cazas complementaron al avión de entrenamiento Lockheed T-33. El F-5 dio a México su primer avión de combate supersónico y vio la formación del Escuadrón Aéreo 401. El 16 de septiembre de 1995, después de más de 30 vuelos militares sin incidentes, un F-5E colisionó en el aire con tres Lockheed T-33 durante el desfile militar por la independencia de México; se produjeron un total de 10 muertes. Después de varias modernizaciones, ahora se tienen 5 aparatos en servicio, con la posibilidad de modernizar otros 5, para tener una flota máxima de 10 aparatos. Actualmente existen planes para reemplazar la flota de cazas F-5 y se han escuchado numerosas opciones (desde aviones rusos como el Mig-35 o el Su-35, hasta los archirreconocidos cazas estadounidenses como el F-16 o el F-18, pasando también por otras opciones, como el Gripen sueco y el FA-50 surcoreano), pero hasta el momento, no hay más noticias al respecto.

But as me and a friend were talking about this: it’s ambigious whether or not the Cabots or the Bar Harbor WASP Vault actually contain Players in the Game or just incidental because Lockhart exist

Plenty of gov-sponsored bot accounts already pay for twitter blue though. This is just Musk squeezing more money out of subsidized bot farms.

EDIT And by gov-sponsored I don’t particularly mean any one government. I’m pretty sure every gov has a bot operation in their budget at this point.

There are two special elections in Michigan today.

Democrats technically “lost” their trifecta at the start of the year when two dem lawmakers resigned after winning mayoral elections last November.

Both districts are heavily Democratic, but margins will matter.

If dems continue to overperform, or at the very least hit their 2022 numbers, it will be a great sign for them.

If the win but underperform, it could throw a few warning signs up.

If they somehow manage to lose one or both, it would likely be a huge warning and result in them actually losing their trifecta.
