I love it! The stark contrast in structure and tone between Rocky’s first poem and this one show how much this wound has affected his mind. And whereas the first one summoned images of the Mississippi River and views of the beauty of St. Louis, this one summons darker images, lightning, rain, and skeletons.

So if you haven’t seen the show M*A*S*H, it was a 1970 movie and a long-running TV show from 1972-1983 about a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. However, the series had very obvious subtext about the Vietnam War, which was still current when the movie dropped and during the early years of the show.

By comparison, we only have a pilot for the Lackadaisy show, but the Lackadaisy comic first dropped in 2006, which was coincidentally around the same time I first discovered that my mom smoked pot. And because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s easy to forget that during the Bush administration, the War on Drugs was just as prominent. Drug crackdowns and drug busts were hugely ramped up, I distinctly remember even in my own open-minded school talk of how marijuana was evil or whatever, and I was genuinely afraid that I’d lose my parents when I discovered that they smoked.

Now, on its surface, Lackadaisy is about a speakeasy in the 1920s and booze and all that, but the larger point is showing how this violent criminal underworld, the one that led to the murder of Atlas May and the deaths and injuries of so many others (including protagonist Rocky), was directly created by making booze illegal—in the same way that continuing to keep marijuana illegal has continually caused way more problems than it’s solved.

And fun fact, in real life, right around when Prohibition ended, what was the new substance that everyone started fearmongering about and was eventually made illegal? Pot.

I don’t know Tracy Butler’s feelings about pot, but there are also other parallels I’ve seen with the War on Drugs in the comics, intentional or unintentional. And I feel it adds another layer of interest to the show and comic.

Theory: Lackadaisy is about marijuana in the same way that M*A*S*H is about the Vietnam War.

Not gonna lie, Todd in the Shadows’ latest Trainwreckords may be the first of his videos that I couldn’t sit all the way through. It leaves me feeling like I just spent my entire life learning to use a typewriter.

I got about nine minutes into this episode before I had to turn it off. God, this is depressing. Maybe later I’ll be in a better mood for hearing Todd reiterate how rock is dead over and over.

Still love this performance of “Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper” with both he and James LaBrie sharing lead vocals, and former keyboardist Derek Sherinian sharing keys with Jordan Rudess.

To be clear, I’m not saying that they’re all literally the same character. Angel, N, Rocky, and Jax are distinct characters with distinct personalities. I’m just pointing out the humor in the fact that they’re all smug, sassy assholes with big wide grins. It’s as if Michael Kovach just materializes in the recording booth every time a character like this is created.

And again, I think he’d kick ass as Smiley Bone.

Millie did have some focus in a recent episode. And lIIRC, some fans had criticized the show for focusing too much on Loona in the recent episodes.
