The no fuel part is also the cause of engine braking, because air gets sucked in and exhausted without combustion, all consuming the kinetic energy of the car.

That’s actually both uneconomical and dangerous. 1. because the engine and wheel are disconnected, you lose engine braking, which means you have less braking power and your brake wears out faster. 2. when you go into neutral, the engine quickly goes to idle, which burns fuel, but if you’re in gear there won’t be any fuel into the system because the engine doesn’t need any fuel to rev because of inertia of the whole car.

That’s the gist of it.

In fact I think electronic throttle bodies on smart selectable transmission running on eco mode probably fully open the throttle when you press over a certain amount, pressing further just tells the ECU you want more power so downshifting occurs.

That’s just my guess, if not, I have no idea how automatics would even approach manuals in fuel economy.

It’s pretty much impossible to keep an engine over 80% loading with an automatic transmission so fuel economy will always suck in comparison to shifting yourself according to bsfc.

Driving manual was never taught in school and I’ve never known anyone with a manual car, so it’s not a skill I ever had to pick up. I wouldn’t mind learning to drive manual for a fun car, but for just commuting back and forth to work and going shopping an automatic is fine.

I use manual mode when driving an auto because I know when I want to shift better than the computer.

And there are people whose driving “stule” cannot be comprehended by the control logic of automatic transmission.

They forget there are only two pedals and hit the brake pedal when they try to shift. I’ve heard of someone crashing that way.

People who drives manual their entire lives.

automatic is easy, its manual thats hardest and i learned on the worst transmission lol

i have a love of cars but specifically volkswagen, i own two bugs, a 1975 Miami blue Deluxe with a subaru ej22 engine and a stock 1972 Saturn Yellow super beetle.

Nothing scares me more than a 2nd Gen Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (called Montero Sport here in the Philippines) having an SUA issues. It’s usually with the electronic gas pedal sensor glitching or people who suck at automatic transmission.

Whenever I see one up front or behind, i’d frantically walk or run away as far within it’s driving range.

Reminds me of when Volvo made the S80 with a V8. It’s cool when companies decide to go a little crazy.

Ram is going to make a series hybrid truck, meaning it will be electric powered with a gas engine (the Pentastar V6) only to charge the battery. The figures Ram quotes are impressive: 663 horsepower, 615 pound-feet of torque, 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, 14,000 pounds towing capacity, 145 miles of pure electric range, and 690 miles with a full tank of gas. Plug it in often and you can run on pure electricity for a normal commute and if you have to drive farther it’s no problem. If Ram pulls this off it will be big.

I saw someone share this car on facebook recently. 2003 Infiniti M45. This generation is very underrepresented. I’ve never seen it before, but I see tons of other Infiniti M’s. It has a V8 and some epic looking chrome wheels. It was only sold between 2002-2004, pretty small sliver in the sporty sedan world.
