Some of you may be old or well-read enough to remember how Hanna-Barbera back in the day used to do all sort of odd crossovers with real-life celebrities and animated characters.

Actually, I find her very likable. But hey, that’s just me.

Relatable is not the same thing as Likable. Just because you can relate to someone doesn’t necessarily mean you like them.
 
Take Helga for example. She can be considered relatable to some because of her realistically shitty home life. But her violent, thuggish attitude toward the world around her because of it and her (quite frankly) creepy stalker mentality towards Arnold make her unlikable.

Except Twilight and Starlight are likable because they have realistic flaws that make them relatable. You don’t have to be unlikable to be likable. You can also be likable by being likable.

Characters who are designed to be likable are often not because they come across as “fake”.  
Take Twilight and Glimglam getting credit because the universe conspires to praise them for s&@t they didn’t do, for example.
 
On the other end characters who are realistically “flawed” (though I wouldn’t necessarily call normal, necessary human traits “flaws”, that conveys an already lopsided perception) become likable because the viewer may be able to better empathize with their struggles and victories.

Helga isn’t really meant to be likable, it’s why there’s a conflict if she was likable and popular she wouldn’t be so scared of trying to get with Arnold, but she is pitiable,
