Baby Critters (the last TYT episode canon to me) was a set up. No one (except Pipp and Rocky) likes Jazz, they just talk to her and be nice to her just to be polite. When Fluttershy got her cutie mark with animals, most of her classmates had even less respect for her. Some even said her mom was an earth pony. Even Rainbow who supported her, still didn’t see the appeal.
Fluttershy for awhile was ashamed of her cutie mark. It wasn’t until she went to Ponyville that Applejack showed her how useful animals can be. And Fluttershy finally got some confidence.
