True. I try to avoid confining myself to genres or languages and have an open mind for any music; I didn’t think I’d get into country but these past two years it’s been one of my favourite genres, especially when featuring the pedal steel guitar (my favourite instrument).

I’m always on the lookout for good foreign music, wish the accordion was featured more in western music, (“Ai su te pego” comes to mind) also enjoy some Turkish music (mainly 90’s and 00’s) from the likes of Tarkan and Hande Yener to name a few.

This isn’t directed to anyone here in the thread, but music isn’t just about rock, that’s something I feel like a lot of self described “music nerds” think and they tend to forget that other genres also exist. Like pop, rap, R&B, folk, metal, country, dance/electronic, Latin and of course the sounds from other countries all exist as well. Of course not everyone has to like every single song or genre in existence, we all have our tastes and limits including me, it’s just something that makes me asks those who say that they’re a “music fan”

That’s true! :D
I’ve been a huge music buff since my early teens, especially of 60s and 70s music.
And yes, I know of DDDBM&T (What a mouthful, even abbreviated!). I’ve got most of their albums in my laptop’s digital Library. “Zabadak” and “Hold Tight” are my fave songs by them. Yes, The Wreck Of The Antoinette is also great!

Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing aren’t too bad imo. I’ve heard much worse “classic” rock than Dire Straits.

That can be said for most radio stations, and a lot of artists who only perform their hits live. An artist’s greatest hit(s) is all most people want to hear. Everything else is irrelevant and therefore “not worth listening to”. I guess they never get tired of playing songs like Don’t Stop Believin, Livin’ on a Prayer, and We are the Champions over and over again.

In fact, the name of the intro itself is “Departure”. Not sure who narrates it, but it’s most likely one of the members of the band

There’s an album I’m trying to remember, I don’t remember what it was called, but it was like a psychedelic album from the ’60s and ’70s that starts with a low synth(?) hum that gradually starts rising in pitch, while a British narrator is reading a monologue or poetry, similarly speaking quietly at first but then increasing in intensity to a loud shout that devolves into deranged laughter as the guitar and drums kick in. Does anyone know what this is?

Like I don’t think that Mark himself is a bigot or a guy who thinks that music “ain’t workin’,” given that he’s, y’know, a musician.
