I don’t know how to say this but I think the Second Cold War just officially started.
What we do is continue our activism, we won’t get anywhere by panicking.
Focus on Earn It, Focus on Chat Control, Focus on defending the Internet.

News on the second piece of Chat Control legislation which would introduce “mandatory scanning” as a consequence.
The new regulation will begin it’s process on March 30th, NOT A VOTE, just the start of the legal process and an actual vote won’t be for awhile.
There’s word of protests on Feb 26th but I’ve yet to find a complete list of them all so please keep an eye out and share it here!

Well the DSA vote happened and this is one of the results:
“Internet corporations use unreliable #uploadfilters against supposedly illegal content - with much collateral damage. The majority won‘t even limit automated censorship to content that is manifestly illegal irrespective of its context.
#rejected“
That’s right, you can thank the EPP especially for that.
Really hope this can be challenged by the courts.

News on the DSA negotiations:
A bunch of EPP MEPs demand that erroneous #algorithms of platforms should take care of regulating online content (AM 515)… while also tabling an Amendment (AM 483) that criticizes platforms’ algorithms.
The EPP really sucks, they really really fucking suck.

Update from Communia!
“On 20 December Estonia became the 10th EU member state to fully implement the #copyright DSM directive into national law. The Estonian implementation gets a number of things right and is among the best implementations we’ve seen so far…”
Also worth sharing:
Final vote on the Parliament’s position on the Digital Services Act (vote on the IMCO report by all Members of Parliament in the plenary session): 17 – 22 January 2022
So keep an eye out for that!

@Background Pony #9814
Then it sounds like the Public Domain itself is being attacked directly.
I’m sorry, isn’t the Public Domain supposed to be PUBLIC?
As in its a written and defined thing with protections?
Wouldn’t this portion of the DSA be in violation of that somehow?

It’s been awhile since I’ve commented on here.
There’s this from COMMUNIA:
“Small #Article17 implementation update fromFlag of France: The
@MinistereCC
has published a new implementation decree that allows the Minister of Culture to specify thresholds for when OCSSPS are considered to provide access to “large amounts of copyrighted works”.

Meanwhile in the European Union, which most of you tend to forget exists:

The Legal Affairs Committee wants to allow online platforms to use error-prone re-upload filters. Algorithms cannot reliably identify illegal content and frequently suppress entirely legal content.

This is how MEPs voted:

Freedom of speech on the internet: The Legal Affairs Committee would allow any member state to order the removal of content that has been legally published in another member state. That means #Orban could have content deleted in your country.

Unauthorised live streams need to be taken down within 30 minutes. This is what the Legal Affairs Committee called for today in its opinion on the #DigitalServicesAct #DSA. This is how MEPs voted:

All this info comes from Patrick Breyer

Even though Brexit was a stupid mistake and the majority of its supports didn’t have a fucking clue how the UK would survive once it happened, the mindset that the EU is going backwards wasn’t totally wrong.

Oh yeah, I won’t miss that hag Merkel.

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
