Okay, one more attempt: there is a short version for all deviations — fav.me. For your example it will be https://fav.me/d8rah6e and for example in OP — https://fav.me/d8q6i2q . Despite both are “not found” links, see how different they looks. And one of them even tells you in final url what name it had.
I don’t exactly know, why it behaves in such a different way, I just expect it to be some kind of a “hiding” artworks, not complete “deletion”.

I don’t know what do you want to hear from me. I don’t use gallery_dl at all and do everything by hands, and I’ll be very surprised, if they still support pre-Wix layout.

No known way.
And as far as I remember, Duragan simply deleted his DA account. Not sure if he deleted any specific uploads.
No idea, how exactly this works, but maybe you can hide works without deleting them completely.
What exactly is that gallery_dl link you showed?

Some images were deleted completely, so we would never know, how new image url will look like.

And here is thumb of a random derpi upload http://pre12.deviantart.net/a55e/th/pre/i/2015/233/b/1/lannie_as_a_merpony_by_pilot231-d96mn5m.png — and it loads just fine.

If you upload a new version, go to the new version and in the menu bar under the tags and source, click the “Report” link, then click “Updating/merging” and you can enter the image ID of the new version. When you click “Report Duplicate” it will go into the queue for folks here who work on duplicates.

If you’d like, you can also report the old one, using the “General reporting” link instead, choose the reason “Other”, and in the text field let us know you’d like it merged (or deleted if you prefer) and include a link to the new image to make sure we merge with the right image.
You can also send me a PM if you’d like, and I will be able to go through your uploads and can probably find it myself … if not I can reply asking for help finding the right images :)

This board is for sharing resources for uploading images. It is not for questions/issues about uploading. If you have questions along the lines of:

Please report the image. The copyright and the original artist has a lot to say about what happens next.

No, they’re referring to Rule #1:
- Do not upload edits without either permission or a reasonable expectation the artist is okay with them; by default, before considering their past art/behavior/statements/etc., it’s expected artists aren’t okay with:
- Use of AI to alter the image (changing elements, “finishing” sketches, decensoring, or upscaling)
But, some artists are absolutely ok with these kinds of edits.
So, again - it all depends on the original artist, and what the original image was. For example, if it is PayWalled, that is also a Rule #1.

In the case Im talking about, only the upscaled version of the edit was uploaded on derpibooru, so there wouldnt be any duplicates to merge with.
Although that begs a new question, does the tag “derpibooru exclusive” apply to this ?

The context would be basically this.
An anonymous editor from another website makes an edit and uploads it on that website.
Another user sees that edit, makes an upscaled version of it and uploads exclusively on derpibooru.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the upscaled edit is also tagged as an anonymous edit, so there isnt a specific editor taking credit for the work.

Im asking that because technically it wouldnt be a backup source since that link would only lead to the downscaled image.
But leaving that field empty would give the false impression that the edit itself originally showed up derpibooru.
