Preview image file extension also makes sense, so changing jpg to the png (but only if original image was png) would also make sense.
It probably should be mentioned in “current knowledge” thread already, but I’m not entirely sure about that.

I don’t know if you’d want this in the “current knowledge” thread in the uploader discussion forum since only you have posts there, but I wanted to mention that for deviantart images that are provided as the fullview jpegs, editing the quality parameter from q_xx (usuall 75 or 80) to q_100 at least gives far better quality. If the DA uploader doesn’t do this already, it should (I just checked some DA-sourced pics which do have the notable artifacts of non-fixed urls. Although I suppose one of the png fixes may work on those images).
