Headcanon: The magic of friendship causes ponies to emit a field that magically translates any spoken language. Think about it, the ponies visit many non-pony peoples in their adventures, dragons, yaks, griffins, and kirin to name a few, and they all speak the same language. The closest we get to a foreign language is when we encounter Zecora, who was talking to herself at the time. The moment the ponies start talking to Zecora she speaks the same language as them.
I say this only applies to spoken languages because Twilight needs to translate the “Old Ponish” written by Star Swirl, but once he arrives in the modern day he needs no translation when speaking.
