@Zincy
…well, that sounds suspiciously Zelda-ish…
Btw, there’s still something that bugs me about evolution:
Now, it had been explained to me before that idea of natural selection simply being “survival of the fittest” is a tad off; rather, it’s more like the proliferation of the slightly better. The reasoning was that the fittest would throw the balance out of whack and collapse the ecosystem, like when an invasive predator hunts a native prey to extinction or unchecked prey overpopulates a habitat.
“Arrogance of man” aside, humans do kinda look like that playable character that totally breaks the game; or rather, we seem highly adept at gaming the system. Sure, we’ve wiped out a few species, but on the other hand we’ve actually raised and bred much of our prey, deliberately
increasing their number in our own interest. Furthermore, we even DEBATE whether we should eat animals to begin with, which we probably wouldn’t do if we didn’t have what’s possibly the most flexible diet in the animal kingdom. For that matter, we’re technically apex predators; more to the point, not only are we one of the very few omnivorous apex predators, but I’m pretty sure all the other ones are hulking beasts with deadly weapons built-in. Again, the only reason we seem to be able to compete at such a level is because we game the system, pretty much bypassing all the checks other species are subject to. Hell, we’ve even been known to transform our environment, adapting it to ourselves rather than the other way around as the evolutionary process would dictate. Oh, and one could write a thesis about all the weird choices humans make regarding the propagation of our species.
…I guess what I’m trying to say is, while I’ve been told how modern man has come to be, I don’t think anyone has told me how modern man in of itself doesn’t outright violate the evolutionary order.
…also, I don’t know if this is a thing or if there’s anyway I could push to make this a thing, but I’d like to see some statistics on tithing.
For those unaware, in the faith it’s said that the “first fruits” of one’s labor belongs to God. Regarding resources, this would literally mean the first ten percent of one’s crops, herds, etc.; with regards to money, on the other hand, it’s the ten percent you give to God before you do anything else with the paycheck. Oh, and “giving” to God pretty much amounts to dropping your shit off at whatever house of worship you choose to associate with.
Now, what’s odd about tithing is that it can allegedly prove God exists. If somebody starts giving his/her tithe, they’re supposed to see his/her finances blessed (usually stuff like getting debt and bills paid off, although there have been reports of extreme cases where real hardcore disciples will come into ownership of stuff like jet hangars); however, a person who stops giving his/her tithe should see his/her finances go to shit.
…and yes, I’m painfully aware that this sounds similar to the sort of shit you’d expect to come outta Obama’s mouth…
…but for what it’s worth, it has been compared to farming: if you plant the best seeds and eat the worst, after several years the worst seeds of your latest crop will taste better than the best seeds of your first crop.
…thing is, I’m currently working a dead-end minimum wage job, living with my parents, and am already tithing; I’m not exactly in the best position to test this for myself. Besides, a sample would probably work better than my own subjective experience; I mean, I know it might not really prove anything one way or the other, but I guess it could at least be a start.
