Just to keep on topic, I’d like to point out
one of the posts on the DWM blog. (Which, by the way, never stopped posting or closed down.)
“Do NOT Insult Others’ Opinions -> Tackle them with facts and reliable sources”
>Implying people have “wrong” opinions that can be somehow corrected through facts, thus making them no longer opinions.
“Your opinions are valid. Always.”
>Contradicting of the ideal that opinions need to be “tackled with facts”.
“Don’t feel like you need to overanalyze!”
>Pardon the fact I’m dusty on my logic fallacies, but I believe this feels like a loaded statement.
Starting off with “don’t
feel like you
need to”: As though every brony
must and is
inclined to share their ideas about their headcanons and theories, and those that do are somehow treading over a line they shouldn’t be.
Then “overanalyze”: implying that any thought put into MLP that isn’t face-value is somehow “thinking too much about it”. Fandoms should be free to over-think their object of affection as much as they want to over-think it.
And then finally, the tag line of “NEVER MAKE RAPE OR MOLESTATION JOKES!”, which contradicts the idea of anyone who thinks they are funny as someone with a “valid opinion” in the eyes of DWMers. You can’t tell others their opinions are valid and then come back and say “But if you do something I don’t agree with your opinion is immediately invalidated. #Bye” It’s not respectful and it borders on starting up the thought police brigade.
I’m glad about #SafeSearchWrapUp and other attempts to tag NSFW content, though. That’s at least something we can all agree on.
