So you’re saying we should remove the voting system all together?
Because upvotes are just as lazy.
You fucked up, TSP.
want to improve the site starting with the community, a thing that’s arguably the most important thing here? Don’t you think adding more of an incentive to reply will help?

As long as you propose it and wait a few minutes to make the change in case someone has a problem with it, you should be fine.

c. So why are we still talking about this in the thread specifically for debating over being for or against downvotes?I could rename the thread to something more in-line with the actual topic, but I’m sure someone would call that power abuse.

a. I’ve read the rules on the upload page plenty of times, but only skimmed over more than THE BIG BOLD RULE OUTLINES, one of which mentions multiple accounts, which doesn’t apply to me, so no I never bothered reading the specifics.
b. Don’t assume to know what I believe, sweetie. And that’s a great way to demonize “a significant portion of people downvoting” .

Wait, smiling and frowning are the same person? I thought having multiple accounts was against the rules.Which just reinforces you’ve never read the rules, as multiple accounts have been covered as “OK” for half a decade.People that are afraid that leaving criticism would have a negative effect downvote instead. There’s no way you believe that a significant portion of people downvoting rather than leaving actual criticism are doing so out of fear of a “negative effect”, rather than simple laziness or utter lack of care.In either case, downvotes aren’t getting removed.

This reinforces keeping downvotes in a way.
You were afraid that your comment would have a negative effect, so you did what you thought would minimize that. People that are afraid that leaving criticism would have a negative effect downvote instead.
Both of these are people wanting to share their opinion.

JFCTSP was the original account. I made this one because users complained that me posting shit like “Trixie is best pony” on random images was intimidating or coming off as a site directive

Find a bad image in the all-time top scoring.
Then find a good image in the all-time worst scoring.
Having both works.

Downvotes serve an actual purpose, showing what people really dislike and what sort of art style and content really strikes a nerve.
Upvotes serve little purpose outside of manifesting biases fanboying. If you like something, it should be easy and fun to express why. If you’re too lazy to support something you like, you shouldn’t be able to so easily influence something’s ratio.
These are legit my 2 cents as well.

I’d tell you to look up any image with muslimshy or a transgender humanization, but those are just wastelands of rule 0’d criticisms (and rule 0’d trolling, which is fine).

My solution was sarcastic, removing either defeats the purpose of the other.

I think it’s safe to assume that would have the same effect that removing downvotes had, we’d see more honest comments telling people why they don’t like the image, which would be more mean messages to delete, which would be more work.
Now removing upvotes, THERE’S a great idea. That would encourage more positive comments, obviously.

There’s a difference between people voicing their distaste for something, like the content of an image or the work of the moderators, and a group of people colluding to silence/discredit/harass people that say things they don’t like.

I’m sorry you don’t approve of how I act, but I can tell you straight up I’ve never seen people on 4chan gang up on others the way I described. Demonize them all you want but people that have actually been there know how things are. “We’re not your personal army.”

Downvoting a person would be even worse than anonymously downvoting art.
Imagine the scripts that could be made.
Someone hurt your feefees? Add them to our blacklist and watch them get hundreds of downvotes automatically from everyone else subscribed to our Meanie List.

The idea of public downvotes seems like a great way to give people fodder to make auto-block lists, ala the SJW shared twitter blacklists.
A great way to divide the community further.

, wings
, and spread wings
would all be found by a search for wing
, but sewing
would not be.
