No matter how much “supposedly” badass a character is, if they are not badass on-screen, then the “supposedly” only amounts to rumors or false impressions.

It’s been over two weeks since The Force Awakens came out. Anyone interested in the movie should have seen it by now. We can probably dispense with hiding spoilers.
 
If Phasma is supposed to be a major antagonist in the coming movies it’s going to be hard to overcome the introduction this movie gave her.

This was my biggest issue with the movie. All the interviews I saw painted Phasma as this awesome, strong character. She then proceeds to star in like, three scenes, say five lines and gets thrown into a trash compacter.
 
I really hope they give her a bigger role in the next movie.

If you want Captain Phasma to be impressive you need to have her do something that shows she is more than a cool suit of armor. You need to show her being a badass leader. As it was, she got knocked out easily and immediately yielded to Solo and company.

A bit of spoilers from the novel: Finn was trained as a stormtrooper in a squad of 4. The other 3 never really liked him, but he still cared for them. Finn’s potential was very promising and Phasma expected a lot from him, except for one problem: he is more concerned about keeping his squad alive than completing missions. The stormtrooper who died on Jakku was a member of Finn’s squad, and TR-8R is likely one of the other two.

If anything, TR-8R was just there to show how these new stormtroopers were far more dangerous than the Empire’s: brainwashed by propaganda from infancy to be absolutely loyal to the First Order and revere it with cult-like zeal and devotion; while given combat training that encouraged improvisation on the battlefield.
 
And who do you think trained TR-8R?

Tr-8R was a more interesting character than Captain Phasma who is rumored to have a bigger role in the next movie despite it being heavily implied that she got thrown in a trash compactor.

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t dig the hype. Yes, it’s awesome to see a stormtrooper able to combat a lightsaber and the internet’s obsession with him is kind of amusing, but I’d rather we stick with Phasma and get a FEMALE Star Wars villain for once THAT’S NOT ASSAJI VENTRESS instead of a random nameless stormtrooper with a riot baton [who clearly got killed by the bowcaster] becoming the major supporting antagonist instead.
 
Derpy becoming a character is one thing, but Star Wars is not MLP.
 
Memes should not make characters.
 
Edit: And yes, I’ve heard people are actually asking Abrams and crew to make him a major character.

I see two with blasters, Ren with his lightsaber, one with a baton, one with a polearm, one I can’t see the weapon of, and then there is some guy with a boat oar.
