A headcanon I’m developing specifically for a fanfic.There is only one way to stop using the elements of harmony, you have to give them up of your own free will. They can’t be taken or lost and so long as you posses them they will not let you truly die. This is not the blessing it seems. You do not heal faster and you still age, you just can’t actually die till you give up the elements. And everyone who holds an element has to give it up at the same time. So even if you’re trapped at the bottom of a deep dark pit with your lungs crushed by fallen boulders the elements won’t let you die unless every individual who hold the elements gives them up.Celestia knows that you can give the elements up, but she doesn’t know that this is the only way to rid yourself of them, after all she and Luna were the first to wield them and both gave them up, one for mad ambition and jealousy and the other out of shame for having to banish her sister with the one half of the elements she controlled.The elements also compel you. They will live up to their names. Honesty becomes brutal truth, laughter becomes insanity, loyalty becomes fanaticism but the elements will remain. Once you are judged worthy they own you body and soul until you give them away, and if someone steals them or if an unworthy soul tries to use them the elements make their displeasure known.
