-Trixie and Sunset were friends and when Sunset quit, Trixie felt better about having to drop out due to lack of funds.

To add to this, Photo Finish was once married to Fancy Pants. They split and she nows dates Hoity Toity. Vinyl has little issue with the pair.
 
And this fits nicely into my headcanon that Photo Finish and Hoity Toity had a daughter, named Silver Spoon. Which would make Vinyl and Silver half-sisters. Eh, why not? It could happen: Compare Vinyl’s probable age (18-23) and Silver Spoon’s probable age (10-12)

I can imagine something like spiked horseshoes (like those ones but with a less evil looking design >>2484) and a spiked helmet for charge as the earth pony equipments but I’m sure we already saw spear so I but be wrong. They could also use canons like the party canon, catapults and are the one who help carrying the supply in cart where there is no railroad to use. Canons have a reasonable efficiency in the sky against flying enemy but in general earth ponies aren’t much useful in this case except from freeing other pony type from non-combat tasks.
 
Unicorn take care of closer ranged combat with magic blast just behind earth pony and defend from cover, they do have a sword to say they are not completely defenseless in melee but little talent with them except from a few elite ones who sometime participate in charge with earth ponies. They can also use canons and catapults with little training if no earth pony is available. Of course they can shoot in the air or from balloons if they fight a flying enemy.
 
Pegasus are natural bombers or fighters/bombers if the enemy can also fly with similar equipment that earth ponies in that case. They can be nearly as good as earth ponies at ground melee (RD and Applejack were of similar speed on hooves) and use this to attack from behind and encircle. Less likely than both earth ponies or unicorn to use advance weapon like canons they take care of emergency supplies with their flying speed along with the extraction of injured and other surrounded friendlies.
 
Of course all of them also wear a protective armor, the pegasus one’s is a little less protective but significantly lighter. The way the battle is done can also completely change if the railroad is near allowing them to bring some tanks on rail and other advanced heavy weaponry along with providing a supply route with little need of earth ponies.

Spiked helmets are probably also a thing, as real horses do use headbutts and the ponies aren’t adverse to putting their head down and charging. Someone, somewhere, mentioned flails connected to their tails. Between the dexterity shown with their tails and a knight costume that had one, it makes sense. Ponies using their tails as whips is also something that’s been shown on a few occasions, so it’s probably part of their combat doctrine. A cat o’ nine tails is a nasty thing, even if it isn’t effective against armor.
 
We’ve seen jousting with strapped on lances, so, yeah, that’s another way to fight. Lances come in many shapes and sizes, and I’d be surprised if ponies didn’t have moves beyond charging. Depending on how common humanoid allies are, mounted troops might also be a thing.
 
Ballista or crossbows could be mounted on either the ground or a saddle to be used by a second earth pony. Not a great rate of fire, but not something that one could ignore. Applejack has also shown a great deal of precision launching rocks with her hind legs, and has been able to get decent throws with her mouth. Earth ponies do have ranged combat options, even if they’re a little awkward.
 
Recently, Pinkie has invented the party cannon, which has a decent rate of fire and can be used by a single pony.
 
Pegasi can shake lightning bolts out of clouds, so that’s something to remember.

The subject of pony weaponry fascinates me, so here is my two cents.
 
Given their high strength and relative lack of physical dexterity (impressive for horses certainly, but nothing on a hand with opposable thumbs), it seems unlikely that they would ever develop weapons like swords themselves. Unicorns could use them, and probably use them quite well what with telekinesis and all, but the only way for an earth pony to wield one would be to hold it in their mouth. This is a terrible idea. You absolutely do not want sharp pieces of metal near your face during battle.
 
I hypothesize that the preferred melee weapon of pony kind is something along the line on a set of gauntlets combined with horse shoes, providing both an increase in protection and striking power.
 
Similarly I doubt they would have much use for ranged weapons. Possibly they could use slings reliably, although I personally would not like the idea of spinning a rock in orbit around my head. Ranged weaponry would likely mostly be done by unicorns who are either capable of shooting magical blasts like Twilight, or of firing a ranged weapon like a crossbow with their telekinesis.

I just said that I don’t know. We’ve seen pictures of them around, even on cutie marks, and the pony warriors from a promo used them, but no ponies have used them on screen in the series.
 
Maybe Ponies just know them as weapons that creatures with arms and hands use? Alternatively, they use a crossbow/ballista kind of thing, carried and braced on one pony and loaded and aimed by another. Or just set on the ground before firing.

There’s been mention of bows and arrows, although I’m not sure how they would be used. We’ve also seen catapults, if in non-combat situation. The party cannon is, as near as I can tell, a multipurpose air cannon, so firing more harmful missiles is within its capabilities.
 
We know that there have been wars and need for weapons in the setting, even if we haven’t seen formalized warfare on screen. What, exactly, warfare looks like when one third of the population can control storms and another can all levitate objects is still unknown.
 
My mention of cars was more related to the lack of mass production, although we’ve seen situations where having a dedicated engine would be useful. The Apples don’t have any form of powered machinery on there farm, despite actually displaying the need in more than one episode. Trixie was also hauling her cart by hoof rather than using a magic powered engine, or whatever the parade floats used.
 
The lack of motors points to them not yet being widespread, rather than being unneeded, since we’ve seen situations where they are needed, or at least preferable.
 
Interestingly, the presence of self mobile parade floats in the third season points to an increasing technology level. Of course, we saw the first automated cider press in the second season, so we know that the technology level isn’t static.

There’s never been a need for guns, or weapons technology in general. The army still uses pointy sticks, and the only ballistics weapon uses parties as ammunition.
 
As for cars, I think they don’t have those because they’re horses. It’s within their power to make them, but since a horse can gallop (or a Pegasus can fly) much faster then a human, they don’t feel the need to manufacture them, saves for when great weights needs carrying (parade floats, cider stills)

1930s seems a bit high. I’d put them at around 1910 or or a bit earlier, with the odd steampunkish exception.
 
Mass production doesn’t seem to be a major thing yet, and the only proper automobile seen was apparently unique. Although the fact that Flim and Flam seemed to build it as a convenient way to move their automated cider press around is worth noting. Despite having fireworks, they haven’t displayed firearms, although Avatar had the same deal.

Also, apparantly Rarity and Trixie are in love with each other as well. (After all, what’s a headcanon without shipping?)

As the result of a conversation with Mayojar77, here’s two.
 
  1. All pony types actually include the genetic code for all the other pony types, it’s just that most only express the phenotype for one race at a time. Things like horns and wings are actually the last things to develop in the pony fetus, so they all look like earth ponies in the womb. All ponies actually have the same instincts, even for racial traits that they don’t have, hence why some ponies seem to have a knack for abilities related to other tribes. The tribal divisions are actual an illusion forced by ignorance, and having a horn or wings means no more than having black or blond hair.
     
  2. Twilight Sparkle learned to fly when Rainbow Dash pushed her over a ledge. Attempting to levitate herself and use her wings to fly at the same time caused her to ram face first into a wall, and while stunned she started to glide. She got the hang of it from there.

    The Wonderbolts are actually elite Weather Ponies. Rainbow Dash, Wonderbolts fangirl and hopeful, has a job as a weather pony rather than anything else, and she does actually take her job seriously. Spitfire, in her official capacity as captain of the Wonderbolts, appeared to watch over an attempt to break a weather record. The Wonderbolts training camp revolved around weather skills when it didn’t focus on flight.

Washington or one of the other northern states is still a possibility, but somewhere in Canada seems likely, given where the show is made. The portal was based in the northerly Crystal Empire, and the school has characters from at least Ponyville and Canterlot, so the school doesn’t seem to be in the same as the Canterlot of Equestria.
 
Hmmn… Equestria Girls Cheerilee will eventually become Prime Minister.

I thought they were in Canada. There were snowcapped mountains in the background. Equestria is kind of based off a map of north America, and there sure aren’t any mountains in Chicago.
 
Maybe this is just my bias, but I just like to think that this is set in a world where Vancouver is called Canterlot. Yes, I know pony Vancouver is Vanhoofer, but still…
