Thanks for the replies! We’ve fit my dad’s car’s tires with chains and are using that to get up and down the mountain; mine is parked near the bottom and will be use for in-town and interstate travel. Everything is okay for the time being.

Ugh! So I just had an incredibly unpleasant experience. I was driving home from a trip to Washington, D.C., but on my way up the mountain, my car got caught on the ice and started going backwards. Attempting to brake only made my car skid until it was diagonal across the relatively thin road. I was finally able to make it stop skidding with my emergency brake, but as I was calling for help, this old woman came down and was really pissed at me. This woman had to be 60 to 70 years old or more and had this thick Russian accent. She reminded me of the villain from From Russia with Love, and she was one of the rudest women I’ve ever met. She kept yelling at me about how she had to be at the airport on time as if her priorities of getting to the airport were somehow more important than ours to get the car unstuck, and was like, “You have to get this car out of my way!” Well, no duh, woman, what do you think I’m doing? Her yelling almost sent me into a frikkin’ panic attack.
 
When my dad drove up behind me, she wouldn’t let up–even after I told her that I have autism and her yelling can upset me–and said some dumb crap like “I’ve lived on this mountain for eighteen years! I know the road better than you!” My dad told her that he and my mom have lived on the mountain for even longer–24 years, to be exact–to which she said, “Psh, if you know the mountain so well, then how did you still get stuck?” not regarding the fact that we were in Washington for three days.
 
I did move out of the way, but I wound up backing into a rock and damaging the back of my car. The ungrateful woman didn’t even say “thank you.” I swear, this woman was the epitome of why I hate the “Respect your elders” mentality. She talked down to us while wishing we placed her needs ahead of our own and seemed to think that her needs and priorities were somehow more important than ours, when really, none were more important than anyone else’s. She didn’t even help us move my car out of the way for her to get by. Eventually, a young couple drove up in a truck and pulled our cars to our house near the top of the mountain, and go figure: the younger couple was respectful and actually helped out.

That and Trump being elected. I mean, this was doubtlessly a bad year for the world, but it wasn’t for me personally and it gets tiring seeing everyone around me circlejerking about how bad it was, especially when it’s likely that 2017 will be much, much worse.

So, uh, for future reference, how can I easily spy a social justice warrior? Because, uh, I’ve realized that the girl I almost asked to be my girlfriend is one, and just in case the thing with my current GF doesn’t work out–which I hope it does–I don’t want to be in that situation again.

Exactly, especially when people try to pull that line on me and I inform them that 1. My direct ancestors didn’t own slaves, 2. My family on my mom’s side is Armenian, an ethnic minority that was put through one of the cruelest genocides in history, and 3. Even if we were related to slave owners, the idea that we should feel personally responsible for what people who existed long before we were born did is stupid.

Same! Who wouldn’t love Jasmine? And would you stop a black, Asian or Mexican kid from dressing as Batman? If not, then the opposite should be true and white girls should be allowed to dress as their favorite Disney characters no matter what race.
