In 2014, my girlfriend dumped me to go get a sex change, my band broke up, the concept album that I had spent two years working on was put on indefinite hold due to my band breaking up, I fell into a deep depression, I was robbed, my grades plummeted, and to top it off, a friend of mine was murdered.

Having a mom with Lyme disease sucks.

For comparison, check out the reviews I made on Halloween ’14 and ’15, Monster Mash and Eat Me: The Musical. Though the first one is significantly angry and significantly Nostalgia Critic influenced, in both I give legit and specific reasons for liking/hating them.

As a reviewer, I consistently put good amounts of time into giving both positive and negative reviews. See, if I think something is good, people need to know why I think that, and same for if I think it’s bad.

Here’s the key difference between me and most SJWs. They seem to assume that everyone they meet is a racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise bigoted asshole, and will listen to find a double meaning in everything they hear. I, meanwhile, just assume automatically that everyone is a good-natured idiot. And before anyone says I’m being rude, let me just point out that I obviously don’t tell anyone that they’re idiots or even think of myself as being better than them. We all say things sometimes that come out wrong, and it’s with this mindset, as opposed to the one that everyone is a bigot, that I can more easily weed out the true bigots.

It’s okay. Though now that we’re on the subject, I feel like people should still be insulted as a means of toughening them up to criticism in the future. Listen to the Johnny Cash song “A Boy Named Sue” (penned by Shel Silverstein) for an example of what I mean by this.
 
(Cliffnotes version: A dad named his son Sue and he was constantly teased for that name, but he grew up to be a stronger and better person because of it. If the same song were written today, it would probably have him complaining about it on Tumblr to everyone’s apathy.)

The thing is, I believe that freedom of speech and political correctness can not only exist together, but must exist together. What is considered offensive is entirely subjective, and if you start censoring what everyone may find offensive, then it’s a slippery slope before nothing is left to say that isn’t offensive.

The number of people who have told me they would willingly sacrifice freedom of speech just so nobody could be offended is legitimately scary to me.
